Dominican Republic not just exports Bachata and Merengue musicians. Prove of that is the Dominican alternative pop/rock band Bocatabu, present here at Doral giving testimony to brake with the cliché, promoting their album “Virgin Stories” (Historias Vírgenes in Spanish).

The vocalist Giorgio Siladi, drummer Miguel Abreu, pianist Oscar Patxot, guitarist Eduardo Fernandez, Francisco Caamaño, and the only woman of the group, violinist Claudia Ponjuan, kindly accepted an interview with us, showing the warmth and humbleness also part of the group. Where the name of Bocatabu came from was the first, forced question, to which they responded was an invention, an imaginary word representing fearless when exteriorizing the language of truth and love.

Virgin Stories is the name of their first record production inserting 12 themes, all composed by the band. The album was recorded and mastered by Ariel Sanchez at the end of 2009 in Dominican Republic, and remixed by Matt Knobel (Lenny Kravitz, Elton John) and re-mastered again a few months ago, for its international launching in United States and Puerto Rico.

Today, Bocatabu is one of the most influential and popular bands of Dominican Republic. The first single “Backlighting” (A Contraluz in Spanish), made No.1 in their country, and is being heard in different radios in United States and Puerto Rico. Its video clip is also making rotation in several broadcasting video channels along America and the Caribbean. The single gave them their first nomination as Best Rock/Pop Group at the Cassandra Prizes, and allowed them to open concerts for several artists like: Alejandro Saenz, Fito Paez, Franz Ferdinand and Miranda. Not  too long ago, the band played at the Pop Festival before more than 50,000 people.

How do you define your music? Clear answer. “We have a variety of styles, but with our own identity for which we mix different ways of expressing our feelings and daily lives… Simple and complex, with touches of classic music combined with the modern. Simply, we are an elegant pop band with certain alternative rock air…”

¡Bocatabú en Doral!

República Dominicana no solo exporta bachateros y merengue.  Muestra de ello, es la banda de pop/rock alternativo dominicano, Bocatabú, quienés estuvieron por Doral y nos dieron testimonio que rompe con ese cliché, tras la promoción de su álbum “Historias Vírgenes”.

Una pregunta obligatoria fue, de dónde provenía Bocatabú, a lo que respondieron que era una palabra imaginaria representando la pérdida del miedo al exteriorizar el lenguaje de la verdad y el amor.

 “Historias Vírgenes”, es el nombre de su primera producción discográfica y contiene 12 temas compuestos por la banda. El álbum fue grabado y masterizado por Ariel Sánchez a fines del 2009 en la República Dominicana, para luego ser remezclado por Matt Knobel (Lenny Kravitz, Elton John) y remasterizado para su lanzamiento internacional en Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico hace pocos meses.

Hoy, Bocatabú se ubica como una de las bandas más influyentes y populares en la República Dominicana. El primer sencillo “A Contraluz,” ya ha alcanzado la posición No.1 en su país de origen y se escucha en diferentes emisoras de radio de Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico, su video también esta rotando en diferentes canales de videos en toda América y el Caribe. Este sencillo les dio su primera nominación como Mejor Grupo Rock/Pop en los premios Casandra, y les permitió abrir conciertos para varios artistas, incluyendo a Alejandro Sanz, Fito Páez, Franz Ferdinand y Miranda. Hace poco tocaron en el Pop Festival ante 50,000 personas.

¿Cómo definen su música?  Su respuesta fue clara… “Tenemos una variedad de estilos, pero con una identidad propia en la que conjugamos distintas maneras de expresar nuestros sentimientos y vida diaria… Simple y compleja con matices de música clásica en combinación con lo moderno. Sencillamente, somos un grupo pop elegante con cierto aire de rock alternativo.”
