Starting Feb.24, people over 55 with chronic illnesses will be vaccinated
DORAL, FL – People over 55 with chronic illnesses will be able to access the COVID-19 vaccine starting this Wednesday, Feb.24, at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The announcement was made by the president of Jackson Memorial Hospital, Carlos Migoya, at the end of last week when he also said appointments would be available online tomorrow, Feb. 23, and begin on person on Wednesday at Jackson vaccination sites.
Appointments availability for people over 55 with chronic illnesses will be announced through Jackson Health System Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Vaccinations are aimed to Florida residents, within the age group mentioned, holding a doctor’s note as proof of suffering from one of 13 conditions identified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as high-risk for COVID-19, reported the Miami Herald.
Candidates for vaccination will also be requested to provide a proof of residence of the state of Florida in order to be received.
“The doctor’s note must include the patient’s name, which of the approved conditions are being treated, the doctor’s order or recommendation to receive the vaccine, and the doctor’s signature,” said Jackson Health System President, Carlos Migoya, as reported by Univision 23.
The 13 conditions are as followed: Breast cancer, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, COPD, coronary artery disease with bypass, Down Syndrome, end-stage renal failure, leukemia, lung cancer, lymphoma, morbid obesity (defined as a body mass index greater than 40), sickle cell disease and organ transplant recipients.
Those who are interested in making an appointment once the hospital confirms availability, must do so online at Jackson’s website.
