“For the Love of Art, Recycle…” Art Contest and Exhibit was a success!!

On Thursday, January 24th, 2013 the Cultural Arts Center of the City of Doral came alive with color, innovation and Art. Doral young artists transformed old newspaper, wire and bottles, and more into masterpieces and at the same time created a second life for these discards.
The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum brought the community together to ignite environmental awareness while helping develop in our children an appreciation of the arts through nontraditional methods, creating with found objects.
Over 50 families, artists and community leaders attended the “For the Love of Art… Recycle…” contest exhibit.
Among those present were Mrs. Michele Rosen – founder of ReThink and ReUse Center stated that the exhibit was amazing. Mr. Frank Siberio was very intrigued by a painting that was created through mixtures of mud, pigment, and air freshener diffusers.
Mayor Luigi Boria delivered personally the First, Second and Third prizes to the winners, together with a Certificate to each one of the participants. Mayor Boria emphasized the importance of this type of events given that we are educating our community and children about the value of taking care of our environment.
There was a special recognition to Mrs. Donna Harvey from Dr. Rolando Espinosa Public School and her students for their participation.
Sara Alfaro, Executive Art Director of the TAP Workshop Museum believes that Art education is a powerful tool that must be use to develop life skills, therefore the Public and Charter School connection in this environmental task of raising awareness is vital.
“We want to extend our gratitude to Mayor Boria and Council and the support of the Environmental and Cultural Advisory Boards from the City of Doral for believing and supporting our children. Also we want to thank profusely Mrs. Michele Rosen from ReThink and ReUse for all her involvement in the education based in recycled materials in favor of our environment”, said Alfaro.

“For the Love of Art, Recycle…” Concurso y Exhibicion de Arte fue un éxito.

El jueves 24 de Enero de 2013, el Centro Cultural de Arte de la Ciudad de Doral se lleno de color, innovación y arte. Los jovenes artistas de Doral transformaron periodico usado, alambre, botellas y mas materiales en obras de arte y al mismo tiempo le dieron una segunda vida a estos “desechos”.
Mas de 50 familias, artistas y lideres comunitarios estuvieron presentes en la Exhibicion de Arte de “For the Love of Art, Recycle…”
Entre los presentes estuvieron la Sra. Michele Rosen, fundadora de ReThink and ReUse Center. Ella comentó que la exhibición fue excelente. El Sr. Frank Siberio se mostro muy intrigado por una pintura que fue creada a base de una mezcla de barro, pigmento y difusores de aromatizantes de aire.
El Alcalde Luigi Boria entregó personalmente el Primer, Segundo y Tercer premio a los ganadores, tambien entregó un certificado de la Ciudad de Doral a cada uno de los participantes. El Alcalde Boria enfatizó la importancia de este tipo de eventos, ya que a través de ellos estamos educando a la comunidad y a la niñez sobre el valor de cuidar nuestro medio ambiente.
A la vez, se dio una Mención Especial a la maestra Donna Harvey de la escuela publica Dr. Rolando Espinosa y a sus estudiantes por su participación.
Sara Alfaro, Directora Ejecutiva de Arte de TAP Workshop Museum cree que la educación sobre el Arte es una herramienta muy poderosa y que debe de ser utilizada para desarrollar habilidades para la vida, es por esto que la participación de las escuelas públicas y charter es vital para crear conciencia en nuestra obligación con el medio ambiente.
“Queremos agradecer al Alcalde Boria y al Consejo, al igual que al apoyo de los Concejos de Consulta del Medio Ambiente y Cultural de la Ciudad de Doral por creer y apoyar a nuestra niñez. Tambien queremos agradecer enormemente a la Sra. Michele Rosen de ReThink and ReUse por todo su apoyo e interés en la educación basada en materiales reciclados en favor del medio ambiente” comentó Alfaro.
