“Committed to my City: I Am Doral” initiative will launch in September

Over the years, the influx of new residents to Doral has increasingly created the need for some type of induction program to help them embrace the values, assimilate the culture and understand the basic coexistence rules of the city.
“Committed to my City: I am Doral” is the name of the answer to that need; a private educational initiative, sponsored by Doral Family Journal, it aims to help newly arrived residents understand the community and learn how to become model Doral citizens through a series of free educational workshops.
During the recent August meeting, it was approved by Council that the City of Doral will support this initiative, allowing the use of the City logo as part of the promotional campaign, and informing about the location and dates of the workshops through its media outlets, as well as providing cooperation of City staff to offer presentations when invited to participate at the workshops. The legal department and management will ensure that all information provided to participants is completely aligned with the values and purposes promoted through the outreach programs of the City.
Also the Parks and Police 4 Kids Foundation will support the initiative, help promote the information about the workshops and participate when invited to offer presentations for the residents.
Who will benefit from the “I Am Doral” initiative?
The series of monthly workshops will address issues detected as important for new residents, who have confronted them through their acculturation process, giving special attention to newly arrived immigrants requiring orientation and advice to succeed and positively impact their new environment. These bilingual workshops will be free of charge and will take place at different locations throughout the city, as the objective is to extend the outreach of information to all residents that may require it.
Several of the themes that will be addressed in the workshops are:
- The role of immigrants in the United States
- How to invest in the City of Doral
- Legal assistance and orientation on business and immigration issues
- Education, Language and American Culture
- Safety, Respect to rules and Citizenship
- Information about the operation of each City of Doral Departments: Building, Code Compliance, Parks and Recreation, Police, Etc.
Doral Businesses share their knowledge and experience
Along with Doral Family Journal, a group of Doral businesses have come together to develop the “I Am Doral” program.
Ivan Medina, from Medina & Medina Consultant Group explained that his corporation will bring to the table all information related to “international law for those who have their businesses in their country of origin and want to open businesses in the US, and also on issues related to federal immigration. We will explain to immigrants, in ways they can understand, what are the laws governing their immigration status and what are the rules governing general public behavior, and the consequences that can generate for their status if they fail to follow regulations, rules and ordinances in the community.”
Providing legal advice to new residents will help them know the rules to obtaining permits to operate in the city so they “do not make mistakes and learn to respect all requirements” to be successful in their endeavors. The firm will bring three specialists to make presentations in the workshops about corporate, immigration law and foreign law.
Another company sponsoring the “I Am Doral” initiative is Business2 Action. Ms. Elizabeth Nuñez explained that the topics selected for the workshops are of interest for immigrants and new residents, to learn how to be better citizens and adapt to their new city. Her organization will “facilitate the organization and execution of the workshops, fostering a dynamic environment, where participants feel welcome and comfortable to express opinions and ask questions, but most of all to make the most of the opportunity of receiving all the information that will be shared.”
Nuñez also said that some of the workshops will take place at rental communities or Home Owner Association locations that have already requested the program to educate their residents, and also at hotels around the city. “We are open to organize the workshops at any community or location that can allow more people to have access to the information.”
The official launch of the “Committed to my City: I Am Doral” initiative will take place on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at the Intercontinental Hotel, as part of Doral Family Journal’s Back to School Welcome event, where members of Doral businesses and community organizations, as well as local and regional authorities have been invited to participate.

La llegada constante de nuevos residentes a Doral ha creado, con el pasar del tiempo, la necesidad de proporcionarles un programa de inducción para que comprendan los valores, asimilen la cultura y aprendan las reglas básicas de coexistencia en la ciudad.
El programa “Comprometido con mi Ciudad: Yo Soy Doral” es la respuesta a esa necesidad. Es una iniciativa educativa privada, patrocinada por Doral Family Journal, con el objetivo de ayudar a los nuevos residentes a comprender su comunidad y convertirse en ciudadanos modelo, a través de una serie de talleres educativos gratuitos.
En la reunión municipal de Agosto, el Concejo de Doral aprobó unánimemente apoyar la iniciativa, permitiendo el uso del logo de la Ciudad como parte de la campaña promocional del programa, difundiendo la información de fecha y localidad de los talleres a través de sus medios de comunicación y además proporcionando la cooperación de personal de la Alcaldía para hacer presentaciones en los talleres cuando sean invitados. El departamento legal y la administración municipal se asegurarán que todos los contenidos e información que se proporcione a los participantes se encuentren completamente alineados con los valores y metas promovidos a través de los programas de comunicación de alcance comunitario de la Ciudad.
La Fundación Parks and Police 4 Kids también apoyó la iniciativa y ayudarán a promover la información sobre los talleres y participarán con presentaciones para los residentes.
¿Quiénes se beneficiaran de la iniciativa “Yo Soy Doral”?
Cada uno de los talleres mensuales de la serie versará sobre alguno de los aspectos que se determinó son importantes para los nuevos residentes, quienes los han confrontado durante su proceso de asimilación cultural, prestando especial atención a los inmigrantes recién llegados, quienes requieren más orientación y consejo para triunfar y crear un impacto positivo en su nuevo entorno.
Estos talleres bilingües serán gratuitos y se realizarán en diferentes sitios por toda la ciudad, con el objetivo de extender el alcance de la difusión de información hasta todos los residentes que la requieran.
Entre los temas que serán tratados en los talleres se encuentran:
- El rol de los inmigrantes en los EEUU
- Como invertir en la Ciudad de Doral
- Ayuda legal y orientación en asuntos de inmigración y negocios
- Educación, idioma y cultura americana
- Seguridad, respeto a las reglas y comportamiento cívico.
- Información sobre la operación de los departamentos de la Ciudad de Doral: Construcción, Normas y Procedimientos, Parques y Recreación, Policía, etc.
Empresas de Doral comparten su conocimiento y experiencia
Un grupo de empresas de la ciudad se han unido a Doral Family Journal para desarrollar el programa “Yo Soy Doral”
Ivan Medina, de la firma Medina & Medina Consultant Group explicó que su corporación aporta al programa toda la información relacionada con “la parte legal que se refiere al extranjero inmigrante en tema de derecho internacional, para aquellas personas que tienen su vida en su país origen y quieren hacer vida en los EEUU, así como todo el tema migratorio federal. Asesorando al extranjero inmigrante en cuáles son las leyes que rigen su estatus migratorio y cuáles son las normas que rigen la conducta ciudadana, se determinan por consecuencia todos los problemas que puede generar para su estatus, para su condición ciudadana, el no respetar esas normativas de hacer vida en la Ciudad de Doral.”
“Nosotros proponemos asesorarlos, advertirlos en esas áreas, de maneras que entiendan que no es solo el tema migratorio, sino también el tema que tiene que ver con la conducta como ciudadano de Doral.” La firma proporciona soporte legal a los nuevos residentes para ayudarles a conocer las reglas para obtener permisos para operar en la Ciudad para que no cometan errores y aprendan a respetar los requerimientos, y logren los objetivos que se han propuesto. Tres abogados especialistas de la firma estarán haciendo presentaciones en los talleres sobre derecho corporativo, leyes de inmigración y derecho internacional.
Por su parte, Elizabeth Núñez, de Business2Action explicó que los tópicos seleccionados para los talleres son de interés tanto para los nuevos residentes de Doral como para inmigrantes de otros países. “Nosotros estamos facilitando el proceso de preparar y ejecutar los talleres, que se den en un ambiente dinámico y participativo, donde las personas se sientan libres para expresar sus opiniones y hacer preguntas, y sobre todo recibir toda la importante información que se quiere entregar en las actividades.”
Núñez comentó que “está previsto que los talleres se realicen en [conjunto con] las Asociaciones de vecinos, o en algunos conjuntos de renta que nos han ofrecido sus espacios para hacer las reuniones. También podemos realizar la actividad en los hoteles ubicados en la ciudad y otros lugares que tengan salas de reuniones, que nos ofrezcan los lugares donde se puedan acercar las personas a recibir la información.”
El lanzamiento oficial de “Comprometido con mi Ciudad: Yo Soy Doral” tendrá lugar el Viernes 9 de septiembre, en el Hotel Intercontinental, durante el evento “Regreso a Clases con Doral Family Journal”, que contará con la presencia de miembros de los negocios y organizaciones locales y regionales que han sido invitados a participar.
