United HomeCare® (UHC), a leader and pioneer in the provision of home health and community-based home care in South Florida, held its 29th Annual Claude Pepper Awards luncheon on May 9, 2024, at The Pullman Hotel, Blue Lagoon, in Miami, Florida.

The signature event, now in its 29th year, pays tribute to the legacy of The Honorable Senator Claude Pepper for his advocacy on behalf of the elderly and disabled and honors exceptional individuals and organizations from the private and public sectors who exemplify the spirit and ideals of the award’s namesake.

The 2024 Claude Pepper Award honorees include:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: David Lawrence, Jr., Founder and Board Chair of The Children’s Movement of Florida.
  • Public Service Award: The Honorable Jimmy Patronis, Chief Financial Officer, State Fire Marshal, and Member of the Florida Cabinet, State of Florida
  • Thelma Gibson Community Service Award: Nelson L. Adams, III, M.D., President and Founder of Metro-Miami OB/GYN Associates and Chair of the Board, Sunshine Health
  • Corporate Service – Healthcare Award: Nestor Plana, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Independent Living Systems and Florida Community Care
  • Media Service Award: Sandra Figueiredo, Managing Editor and Founder, and Ettore Sabatella, Editor-in-Chief of Doral Family Journal
  • Education & Advocacy Award: Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences of Florida International University
  • Community Builder Award: The Honorable Roberto Martell, Mayor of The Town of Medley, Florida.

Receiving the Claude Pepper Media Service Award, Ettore Sabatella and Sandra Figueiredo of the Doral Family Journal expressed their gratitude. “We want to thank United HomeCare for recognizing our work. This award is a testament to the power of the media to create a positive impact in our communities,” said Sabatella.

“This recognition reaffirms our commitment to continue being a vehicle for the dissemination of information and resources that improve the quality of life of those who need it most in our community. We will continue to tell their stories that inspire us to work together to build a better future… and we commit to continue pedaling, as the Honorable Claude Pepper said, in our commitment to serve the community and carry forward its legacy,” added Sandra Figueiredo.
