New Doral Middle School Principal is very optimistic to begin work.

Marie Caceres is the new principal of our prestigious Doral Middle School, Doral Family Journal had the chance to meet her on the 4th of August, the day she was appointed by Carmen Marinelli, the region superintendent.
Marie Caceres is definitely a very likeable person and a very nice one as well, she does not hide her excitement for the job she has been chosen to do. She has 34 years of experience in public education under her belt and works under the concept that students should be convinced that the school is there for them. As a working mother, she understands very well the importance of trusting the school where you send your children and it is her goal to give that confidence to the rest of the parents. A firm supporter of public education as the state’s responsibility, she shared with us her profound admiration for the Miami Dade County Public Schools Superintendent, Mr. Alberto Carvalho, who she describes as an honest person who has been very brave in making the difficult decisions whose positive results are being demonstrated today. Marie Caceres comes from being the principal of an “inner city” (low-income area) school with an “A” rating and lots of great memories. There is nothing more valuable than a child’s happiness to her, and she will forever fight for it. She very kindly gave us this interview:
DFJ: Before we congratulate you on your recent appointment, can you tell us what you expect from the Doral community?
MC: “ I am very honored to have being asked. The support of the community is overwhelming. It is going to be wonderful for me to have the opportunity to work with a community who can really support their children education and I do not plan on disappointing them.
DFJ: We are currently facing profound budget cuts for education which will be a challenge for you, how do you plan on managing it?
MC: “This is how I feel, there are budget cuts everywhere and of curse, for everything we want to achieve, we need money to do it, but when it comes to a child’s education, you have to find the means to do what ever it takes to get these children ready. I am going to be the principal of a school that is going to have 7th and 8th grade only. For me that is very important because my job is going to be to prepare them for High School. High school is where they are going to take off, with whatever career they have in mind. They are going to be backing their selves up with the sufficient knowledge to become successful in whatever field they choose.
DFJ: How would you describe your job?
MC: Teaching for me is more of a vocation that brings me happiness than a job. My goals are to give students a safe school where the can be happy, confident, and on the right track to success. En the school I want to be a mother to the students and I want them to know that I will only work for them.
DFJ: Superintendent Carvalho spoke on the importance of elective course and extracurricular activities recently.
MC: I believe that those courses are very important for students since when they make the transition to high school they will be offered many more options. They need to know what they like, what they are good at, and where they are comfortable so that they are not afraid to try something new. That is the objective.
DFJ: Doral Middle School has had very successful student associations (athletic, arts, and cultural) as well as innovative electives. Does the possibility of maintaining that exist?
MC: It is our number one goal. I accepted my position today and as soon as I arrive at the school I will begin to study and try to find what is the true passion of these students so that I can work towards that. That’s why we are here, for the students.
“ I simply wish to gain the parent’s confidence and for them to let me lead their child’s development towards their expectations. It will take time but I will not cease to put forth maximum effort, I want my students to become successful young adults, ready to face life”.

Nueva Directora de Doral Middle School se incorpora a sus labores con mucho optimismo.

Marie Caceres es la nueva directora de la prestigiosa escuela intermedia Doral Middle School… Doral Family Journal tuvo la oportunidad de conocerla el pasado jueves 4 de Agosto, el mismo día en que fue nombrada por la Superintendente de la Región , Dra. Carmen Marinelli.
Marie Caceres es definitivamente una persona muy agradable y sobre todo amable, no oculta su emoción por la encomiable labor a la que ha sido elegida para realizar. Lleva como bagaje 34 años de servicio a la educación pública y el firme concepto que sus estudiantes deben de estar convencidos que la escuela esta ahí para ellos. Como madre trabajadora, ella conoce muy bien la importancia de poder confiar en la escuela a la que envías a tus hijos y esa es la confianza que les quiere dar hoy a los padres de familia.
Firme defensora de la educación pública como deber del Estado, nos expresa la profunda admiración que tiene por el Superintendente de Escuelas del Condado Miami Dade, el Sr. Alberto Carvalho, del cual nos dice que es una persona honesta que ha podido valientemente tomar decisiones muy difíciles y de las cuales ya estamos viendo buenos resultados.
Marie Caceres viene de ser la directora de una escuela primaria en “ inner city “ (lo que conocemos como zona de muy escasos recursos), escuela calificada “A” y de la cual solo tiene maravillosos recuerdos. Para ella no hay cosa mas valiosa que la felicidad de los niños y por ellos siempre va a luchar. Amablemente nos concedió esta entrevista:
DFJ: Antes que nada, felicitaciones por su nombramiento. Nos podría decir que espera de la comunidad del Doral?
MC: Me siento muy honrada por este nombramiento. Se que en Doral el apoyo de la comunidad es abrumador. Va a ser maravilloso para mí tener la oportunidad de trabajar con una comunidad que realmente colabora la educación de sus hijos y no los pienso defraudar.
DFJ: Estamos enfrentado profundos recortes en el presupuesto de la educación y esto va a ser un desafío para usted, como piensa manejarlo?
MC: Existen recortes de presupuesto en todas las áreas y lamentablemente se necesita dinero para implementar cualquier proyecto de desarrollo o actividad que se quiera lograr . Pero cuando se trata de una educación de los niños, hay que encontrar los medios, cueste lo que cueste, para poder prepararlos adecuadamente Voy a ser la directora de una escuela que va a tener 7mo y 8vo grado solamente y mi trabajo va a ser el preparar a mis estudiantes lo mejor posible para la escuela secundaria. Esto es importante para mi pues pienso que la escuela secundaria es el punto de partida de una carrera o actividad. Con el conocimiento adecuado adquirido en la escuela intermedia, los alumnos podrán tener en éxito en cualquier campo que elijan.
DFJ: Como definiría su trabajo?
MC: La enseñanza para mi, mas que una trabajo es una vocación que me hace feliz. Mis metas son proporcionar a los estudiantes una escuela segura, en donde estos puedan ser sobre todo felices, confiando en si mismos y encaminados al éxito. En la escuela quisiera ser como una madre para mis estudiantes y quiero que sepan que solo voy a trabajar para ellos.
DFJ: Recientemente el Superintendente Carvalho nos habló de la importancia de los cursos electivos y extracurriculares.
MC: Pienso que esos cursos son muy importantes para los estudiantes pues cuando pasan a la escuela superior les son ofrecidas muchísimas las opciones. Ellos tienen que saber que les gusta, en que son buenos, que les acomoda y así no tener miedo tampoco de optar por algo nuevo, ese el principal objetivo.
DFJ : En Doral Middle School se han destacado muchos clubes (deportivos, artísticos, culturales) y se han ofrecido siempre innovadores cursos electivos. Existe la posibilidad de mantenerlos?
MC: Esa es nuestra meta y mi mayor esperanza. Yo acabo de tomar mi puesto el día de hoy, apenas llegue al colegio lo voy a estudiar muy bien y voy a tratar de encontrar cual es la verdadera pasión de estos estudiantes y voy a trabajar en base a esos resultados. Por eso estamos aquí, por los niños.
“Yo espero simplemente ganarme la confianza de los padres y que ellos me permitan lograr el desarrollo de sus hijos en base a lo que ellos esperan. Tomara un poco tiempo pero no voy a cesar en mis intentos, quiero que mis niños se conviertan en exitosos adultos jóvenes, listos para enfrentar la vida”
