Miami-Dade Schools encourages students to download FortifyFL

DORAL, FL – Miami-Dade Schools asked students to use a tool called FortifyFL, through its twitter account, which is available in the Dadeschools Mobile App.

FortifyFL is intended to be used as a suspicious activity reporting tool that allow users to instantly relay information to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.

It can be downloaded for free from Apple and Google Play stores or accessed from the Dadeschools.net homepage, as well as the student, parent, and employee portal pages or through each school site information page.

With its slogan “See Something, Say Something”, this tool aimed for students offers the possibility to provide a description of the threat, share pictures and videos, and optionally submit contact information.

By doing this, FortifyFL automatically routes the tip report to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible. It should be noted that the local police department or sheriff office receive copies of such tip report, as well as state-level officials.

With FortifyFL, Miami-Dade Schools wants to reach thousands of schools and millions of students in a secure way as the tip report can be done anonymously in an easy 4-step process.

The tool was created and funded by the 2018 Florida Legislature as part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.

The application was named by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The Office of Attorney General, Department of Education and Florida Department of Law Enforcement coordinated its development and roll-out.
