Miami-Dade to resume the 100% in-person learning model this summer

DORAL, FL – Miami-Dade Public Schools will resume the regular 100% in-person learning modality as soon as this summer with guidance from their medical experts. 

This means there will be no more blended hybrid remote learning in the near future. “It is our goal to begin to transition towards that full modality with our summer learning program, which will be dramatically expanded compared to years past,” said on Tuesday Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent, Alberto Carvalho.

For the 2021-22 school year classes will be imparted solely under the on-campus modality to students across all grade levels, from pre-K through grade 12th. Families interested in still receiving classes online can opt for virtual education programs such as Florida Virtual School or Miami-Dade Online Academy. 

“As a school system of choice, families will continue to have the opportunity of enrolling their child with the Miami-Dade Online Academy, which has provided a virtual learning school option for many years,” posted Carvalho on Twitter.

Enrollment in Miami-Dade Online Academy opened on March 1 and will close by July 15, 2021, according to their website. Florida Virtual School, on the other hand, opens its enrollment period for the full-time program on May. 

Other options include Broward Virtual School, which could be possibly expanded since Broward County will too adopt the 100% in-person learning by next year, as announced by Superintendent Robert Runcie. According to him, the fact that today all Florida residents older than 18 can get a COVID-19 vaccine is enough reason to make the transition.

“There is no substitute for the live presence of a dedicated, caring professional teacher,” Carvalho said about the importance of continuing with the traditional model.
