Multimillion Dollar Transportation Project by FDOT to Start in Doral.
DORAL, FL – As part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s road and traffic improvements for our area, construction of the western portion of the NW 25th Street Viaduct (Elevated Bridge) project will start on June 11, 2012.
The project is designed to improve the flow of traffic and facilitate the movement of goods in and out of the cargo facilities at Miami International Airport (MIA) and will alleviate local traffic while improving the quality of life of Doral residents and visitors. The viaduct will touch down just east of NW 82 Avenue.
The project will also include:
- Total reconstruction of NW 25 Street from the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) to 89 Court;
- Widening of NW 25 Street over the North Line Canal;
- The addition of a third westbound through lane from NW 82 Avenue through NW 87 Ave;
- New signalization, street lighting, landscaping, water and sewer main and pedestrian features.
The estimated $58.5 million project is expected to last approximately three and a half years.
During construction there will be four lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound) open from the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) to 89 Court. There will also be a reduction in the number of travel lanes on 79, 82, 84 and 87 Avenues to the north and south of NW 25 Street.
In order to complete key construction activities, lane closures will occur at various locations during the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Saturday. In addition, detours will be necessary to construct the viaduct over NW 25th Street. Information on these and any other detours will be provided well in advance. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times throughout the project.
Although Doral drivers will experience delays, every effort will be made to minimize impacts to traffic. Drivers using these streets are highly encouraged to use alternate routes such as NW 12 Street and NW 33 Street. It is also recommended to allow extra time when commuting to accommodate for traffic and other detours. FDOT encourages drivers to call 511 before they drive or log on to www.fl511.com to get real-time traffic and lane closure information.
