Formal statement from city of Sweetwater and acting-mayor Jose Diaz.
Sweetwater, FL – The City of Sweetwater is an institution that is not defined by one person and continues to operate as usual in light of recent events. The main focus of city administration and staff is to continue to provide excellent service to residents, business owners and the community.
In line with the city charter, Jose M. Diaz remains commission president and will serve in the capacity of acting-mayor during Manny Maroño’s suspension. Acting-mayor Diaz will only be sworn in as mayor if Marono is convicted or resigns from his position. There will be no restructuring of the city commission at this time.
Acting-mayor Diaz echoes that the city administration and staff remain united and continue to hold residents and services as their top priority.
“I would like to reiterate that Manny Maroño is innocent until proven guilty. I am confident in our judicial system and that justice will prevail,” said Diaz. “I will continue to lead the city in a professional fashion with the highest level of integrity. The sentiment is the same for all administration and staff. There will be no gaps in service to our residents or community”.
The next general elections for the mayoral seat will take place May 2015.
