Doral Council approves new measures for entertainment venues
DORAL, FL – Doral Council approves new measures following the May 8 council meeting where two items on alcoholic beverages regulations were discussed and one of them was approved in a first reading.
Last night, it was decided in a second reading that all night establishments must be closed at 3:30 a.m. while the last call to serve alcoholic beverages would be 2:30 a.m.
In addition, Doral council also approved that certain establishments would require to have security plans, cameras, private security hired or off-duty police officers, and firearms detection system.
Current regular license holders of entertainment venues are not required to follow these security measures under ordinance 2024-16 unless applying for the extended hours permit.
The amended code on alcoholic beverages seeks to decrease the possibility of a shooting happening in Doral like the one reported on April 6 inside Martini Bar at City Place Doral that left two people dead and seven more injured.
This incident prompted City of Doral Mayor, Christi Fraga, to call for a meeting on April 10 with the purpose of discussing the security scenario and the code amendments that needed to be done in order to strengthen safety for residents and visitors alike. In addition, the Doral Police is doing its part to make sure everyone has the safest summer possible.
The effective date of the approved ordinance is October 1, 2024.
