The first woman to aspire to this position.
She expects that her postulation help inspire the young women of Doral in getting involved in community subjects, in the same way that for her the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton has been encouraging.

Endorsed by her experience as a member of the City of Doral Council, Sandra Ruiz has decided to start her campaign to become the Mayor of the city; city that she is willing to continue serving with the same dedication and commitment that she assures she has done always.
This is what Sandra Ruiz expressed during the presentation of her candidacy to the position of Mayor, she also stressed her deep knowledge of our city, for which she has been a resident since the first years of its incorporation and that today is one of the more developed cities in Miami.
Ruiz is a founder member of the city and the first woman to be elected to Council, for which she has occupied the positions of Council Woman and Vice Mayor.
Sandra Ruiz, who is a Mexican born and was raised in California, was elected the first time in 2002 and today is a Council Woman, she occupies seat No. 1, from this position she has given priority to education, attention to youth and the financial vision of the city.
The candidate to Mayor of Doral, who is also the only woman competing for this position, wishes to motivate the voters by asking them to participate. “Not only to participate in the electoral process, but also to participate in community activities, there are countless of times that we hold meetings or gatherings and very few people attend. It is important that all of us get involved because the Town Hall belongs to the people”.
The candidacy of Sandra Ruiz comes after the recent candidacy of Juan Carlos Bermudez, who was the first Mayor of the city, and aspires to be elected once more and that was an important part of the city’s foundation and consolidation of Doral; it also adds to the candidacy of Luigi Boria, current Mayor of the city who trusts in his re-election with the support of the voters to continue in the position, as he assures that he has been a leader in the recent commercial and residential development of the city.
Sandra Ruiz stated that Doral has to adapt to the population changes that we have been experimenting. “From 2002 to 2005, we never thought that what was going on in Venezuela was going to have such a big impact in our city, so it is important that we adapt to this transformation and for this we need to improve our recreation areas and traffic”.
In regards to traffic, one of the main issues that affect our residents, Ruiz indicated that it is important to keep and solidify the relationship with Miami Dade County because this is a subject that needs to be worked jointly in order to get to an efficient solution.
“It is also essential that we get the input of experts in traffic (vehicular), given that everything we have done so far has not been enough and the city has the necessary funds to fix this problem”.
After the candidacy of Sandra Ruiz, the president of the Florida Democratic Party (FDP) Allison Tant and the Mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum expressed their satisfaction for this candidacy. Tant indicated that “she was the first woman to be elected to the City of Doral Council and now she will continue her success history as the first woman to occupy the Mayoral seat”.
Gillum added that Ruiz has the experience and the ability to unify the community in favor of its development, for which he expects that the public service that she has worked for until now could continue to benefit the residents of Doral.
Even when Sandra Ruiz knows that Doral has been considered as an exemplary city, she assures that it can be much better. “The future of Doral is just around the corner. We need to improve every day and to demand and provide excellence in all levels, because this is the only way to achieve the complete development of our beautiful city”.
It is important to mention, even when Sandra Ruiz states that it is only a nice coincidence, the date of her candidacy, May 5th, 2016,because it coincides with the celebration of National Prayer Day and the Victory of the Battle of Puebla, which have a special meaning for her due to her Mexican roots.
Lets remember that for this period, there will also be elections for seats 1 and 3 of the City Council. Seat 1 is now occupied by Council Woman Sandra Ruiz and the candidates to this position are Claudia Mariaca, Carlos Pereira and Jackelin Guiza. Vice Mayor Christi Fraga currently occupies seat 3 and even when she has not made any formal announcement, it is expected that she will run for re-election, having now as only opponent David Hernandez.

Avalada por su experiencia como miembro del Concejo Municipal de Doral, Sandra Ruíz decidió lanzar su candidatura a la Alcaldía de esta ciudad, a la cual espera seguir sirviendo con la dedicación y compromiso que asegura haberlo hecho siempre.
Así lo expresó Sandra Ruíz, durante la presentación de su postulación como alcalde, en la cual hizo hincapié en el profundo conocimiento que tiene de nuestra ciudad, de la cual también es residente desde los primeros años de formación de esta localidad que hoy en día es una de las metrópolis más desarrolladas de Miami.
Ruíz es miembro fundador de la ciudad y la primera mujer en ser elegida parte del Concejo Municipal, en el que ha ocupado los cargos de concejal y de vice-alcaldesa.
Sandra Ruíz, quien es mexicana de nacimiento y californiana de crianza, fue electa por primera vez en el 2002 y en la actualidad se mantiene como concejal, ocupando la silla No.1, cargo desde el cual le ha dado prioridad a la educación, atención a la juventud y a la visión financiera de la ciudad.
La candidata a alcaldesa de Doral, quien es también la única mujer que aspira a este puesto, espera motivar a los votantes, pidiéndoles que participen. “Pero no sólo que participen en el proceso electoral, sino también en las actividades comunitarias, pues muchas veces hacemos reuniones o encuentros a los que asisten muy pocas personas. Es importante que todos nos involucremos porque la Alcaldía pertenece al pueblo”.
La candidatura de Sandra Ruíz se suma a la reciente postulación de Juan Carlos Bermúdez, quien fuera el primer alcalde de la ciudad y parte importante en la fundación y consolidación de Doral y quién aspira ser electo de nuevo; y a la nominación de Luigi Boria, actual mandatario de la ciudad, que confía en su re-elección con el apoyo de los electores para mantenerse en el cargo, pues asegura haber liderizado parte del reciente desarrollo comercial y residencial de esta localidad.
Sandra Ruíz manifestó que Doral debe adaptarse a los cambios poblacionales que hemos experimentado. “En los años del 2002 al 2005, jamás pensamos que lo que sucedería en Venezuela iba a impactar tanto nuestra ciudad, así que es importante que nos adecuemos a estas transformaciones y para eso creo que debemos mejorar la recreación y el tráfico”.
En relación al tráfico, uno de las situaciones que más aqueja a los residentes de Doral, Ruíz señaló que es importante mantener y estrechar las relaciones con el condado de Miami-Dade, pues este es un tema que debe trabajarse en conjunto para buscarle una solución eficiente. “También es indispensable que nos asesoremos con expertos en tránsito terrestre, pues lo que hemos estado haciendo hasta ahora no ha sido suficiente y la ciudad tiene los fondos necesarios para atender este problema”.
Tras la postulación de Sandra Ruíz, la presidenta del Partido Democrata de la Florida (FDP, por sus siglas inglés) Allison Tant y el alcalde de Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum, manifestaron su satisfacción con esta candidatura. Tant destacó que “fue la primera mujer elegida para el Consejo de la Ciudad de Doral y ahora va a seguir basándose en su historial de éxito como la primera mujer en ocupar la alcaldía”.
Gillum añadió que Ruíz tiene la experiencia y la habilidad para unir a la comunidad en pro de su desarrollo, por lo espera que el servicio público que ella ha prestado hasta ahora, pueda seguir beneficiando a los residentes de Doral.
Si bien Sandra Ruíz reconoce que Doral ha sido calificada como una ciudad ejemplar, asegura que puede ser mucho mejor. “El futuro de Doral está a la vuelta de la esquina. Cada día tenemos que seguir mejorando y exigir y dar excelencia a todos los niveles, pues es la única forma de lograr el desarrollo pleno de nuestra bella ciudad”.
Cabe destacar, a pesar de que Sandra Ruíz señala que se trata de una hermosa casualidad, la fecha de su postulación (05 de Mayo del 2016) pues coincidió con la celebración del Día de la Oración y de la victoria de la Batalla de Puebla, lo cual tiene un especial significado para ella por su origen mexicano.
Recordemos que, para este período, también habrá elecciones para los asientos 1 y 3 del Concejo Municipal. La silla No. 1 es ahora ocupada por la concejal Sandra Ruíz y quienes aspiran a este puesto son Claudia Mariaca, Carlos Pereira y Jackelin Guiza. La vice alcaldesa Christi Fraga actualmente ocupa el asiento No. 3 y aunque no ha hecho un anuncio formal, se supone que aspirará a re-elección, teniendo, por los momentos, un único oponente, David Hernández.
