“The full and complete exoneration means that the witch hunt is over, they did not succeed“, Doral Police Chief, Rick Gomez

In a press conference on Thursday, January 19^th, 2012, Doral ‘s Police Chief was quite relieved and happy. He said: “This year was a nightmare and the nightmare is over.

The full and complete exoneration of charges means the machinations of those with a political interest, that had a complete disregard for my family and I, did not succeed.”

As some might remember, an anonymous letter sent to the State Attorney started a process of investigation against Rick Gomez last April.

The two main charges were: embezzlement of city funds in payment for a police ceremony and not following procedures in the bid process for buying office furniture. After months of investigation, the Prosecutor determined that there was no evidence of wrongdoing. “State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, and her staff saw through a web of lies and rendered their decision based on facts and evidence, and it was the correct one” said Chief Gomez, while explaining he faced a difficult situation because by law, he was not being able to defend himself or make statements before the investigative process had finished.

“If not for my family, my friends and my faith, I could not have overcome this situation, but even though it was a hard time for me, it was wonderful to have the support of so many people in the community who always told me that they knew well that I was innocent. ” he added. “The moral and economic damage of the accusation is huge and there is no compensation. The credibility, honesty and reputation of a decorated police, with 30 years of service, was attacked”, said Ibrahim Reyes Gandara, Rick Gomez Lawyer.

Asked why an anonymous letter had reached the point to getting the attention of the State Attorney and resulting in disciplinary proceedings an investigation against Chief Gomez, the lawyer’s response was clear: “Everything started with information provided by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Unfortunately a network of conspirators worked with important contacts to hurt Rick Gomez, who, being innocent faced to being wrongly accused”.

Mr. Reyes Gandara insisted that they will ask the State Attorney to investigate this “willful act of corruption” against the dignity of the Chief of Police of the City of Doral. “We will sue those who conspired to accuse an honest man” and asked to those in the media to spread the word that the Chief Gomez was acquitted of all charges and that  “the Chief of Police of the City Of Doral did not commit any crime and that is still the man just, correct and honest, that we all know.”

Jefe de Policía de Doral absuelto de todos los cargos.

“La exoneración total significa que la cacería de brujas se acabó, no lo lograron”, Doral Police Chief Rick Gómez

En la conferencia de prensa del jueves 19 de enero de 2012 , el Jefe de Policía de la Ciudad del Doral, Rick Gómez se mostró bastante aliviado y contento, “Este año fue una pesadilla y la pesadilla se acabó “ dijo con voz entrecortada. “La total y completa exoneración de cargos significa que no prosperaron las maquinaciones de aquellos que por  intereses políticos no tuvieron ninguna consideración ni con mi familia ni conmigo”, agregó.

Como muchos recuerdan el pasado mes de abril y a raíz de una carta anónima enviada  a la fiscalía , se inicio un proceso de investigación en contra de Rick Gómez. Las dos acusaciones principales venían primero  por malversación de fondos en el pago de una  ceremonia de la policía y luego manipulación de licitaciones en un proceso de compra de muebles. Después de meses de trabajo , la fiscalía determinó que no existía delito alguno. “La Fiscal Estatal Katherine Fernández Rundle y su bufete de abogados pudieron visualizar  que existía una red de mentiras y tomaron sus decisiones basados en hechos y evidencias, y esa decisión  fue la correcta” nos decía Rick Gómez, a la vez que explicaba la situación complicada que enfrentó al no poder defenderse ni hacer declaraciones antes que el proceso investigativo terminara.

“De no ser por mi familia, mis amigos y mi fé, no se como hubiera podido superar esta situación, pero dentro de todo lo malo fue maravilloso haber contado con el apoyo de tanta gente de la comunidad que me decían siempre que me conocían y que sabían bien que era inocente”, nos dijo.

Ibrahim Reyes Gándara, abogado de Rick Gómez  precisó que el daño moral y económico de la acusación contra el Jefe de Policía era enorme y no hay como compensarlo, “se atacó la credibilidad , honorabilidad y reputación de un policía condecorado y con 30 años de servicio” añadió.

Ante la pregunta de que como una carta anónima había alcanzado tanta importancia al punto de conseguir la atención de la fiscalía y derivar en un proceso disciplinario, la respuesta del abogado  fue clara: “Todo se inicia con la información proporcionada  por el Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), lastimosamente una red de conspiradores utilizaron contactos importantes para alcanzar dañar a Rick Gómez, quien siendo inocente tuvo que enfrentar ser acusado injustamente”. Por eso, insistió Mr. Reyes Gándara, “se va  a solicitar a la Fiscalía General que investigue éste acto de corrupción dolosa en contra de la dignidad del Jefe de Policía de la Ciudad del Doral, vamos  a demandar a quienes conspiraron para acusar  a un hombre honesto y lo único que le pedimos a los comunicadores es que informen que el Jefe de Policía de la Ciudad del Doral quedó libre de todos los cargos, que Chief Gómez  no cometió ningún delito y que sigue siendo el hombre justo, correcto y honesto que todos conocen”
