HERNAN M. ORGANVIDEZ: NEW CHIEF OF THE DORAL POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

The initial objectives of his administration are to make the police more visible, to work with the communities and to take advantage of the available technological resources to improve safety.

“We cannot work without the community.” This is the phrase with which Hernan M. Organvidez takes the position as the new Chief of the Doral Police Department. With the support of 32 years of experience in police services and safety in Miami Dade County.

To Organvidez, this new position is a return to home because he was part of the initial police force that was hired from the County to work for the City of Doral.  “I still remember back in 1985 when I use to patrol what is today the City of Doral. At that time there were only warehouses and now, look what a beautiful city we have.”

The new Chief of Police has occupied the positions of officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, Executive officer, Commander and Chief of the South Operations Division. He was recently working in the private sector for Ando Consulting, while still providing consulting services and safety evaluations for private and public entities.

It is important to highlight that during his administration at the South Operations Division, Organvidez was in charge of the security of 815,000 citizens, managed a task force of one thousand people (among officers and civilians) and managed a budget of 125 million dollars, all of which vouch for his leadership abilities.

At an academic level, Organvidez has a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Florida International University (FIU). He is the first officer to represent the City of Doral and that has graduated from the National FBI Academy and has completed a Certificate from the Leadership Institute of the University of Miami.

WHAT DOES HE BRING FOR DORAL?

In 2008, Organvidez handed the police services that were provided by the County to the City, which created its own department. Today, 10 years later, he returns to our city to handle a department formed by 130 sworn officers and 46 civilian employees, with an annual budget of 21 million.

“I take this challenge, thankful for the work that was started by the previous administration, and which was great. I have a team formed by professionals committed to their job, with enthusiasm and very close to their community. I am harvesting the achievements of what they have sown, in order to continue moving forward.”

Organvidez takes the lead of the Doral Police Department convinced that in order to succeed in the police job, it is imperative that the officers are more visible and have more presence, to work hand in hand with the communities and take advantage of the technological resources to improve safety.

Organvidez assures that “the Doral Police Department has 130 officers to serve sixty-two thousand residents and more than two hundred thousand people that come to the city during the day, for this reason the support through the communication of the neighbors is crucial. The eyes and ears of the residents is the most important thing for the police officers and many times this is the starting point of many important investigations.”

When referencing the number of police officers in the City of Doral, Organvidez stated that it is still too soon to determine if there is a need for more officers, this is a subject that has to be analyzed in detail before taking a decision.

The new Chief of Police was also emphatic when he stated that it is important to educate the population, especially in traffic matters. “We cannot only give out tickets when the people commit an infraction while driving, it is important to offer them information and help them with information about knowing and following the law.”

Regarding safety in schools, which is one of the main subjects of concern today among the general population, Organvidez stated that even when this is a subject that technically is responsibility of the Miami Dade School Board,  the Doral Police is always ready to help and it is already analyzing the possibility of implementing a program to reinforce the police presence during drop off and dismissal from schools.

“In case this program is approved, it will involve hiring retired officers that are reservists and that want to work part time, reinforcing the safety in the schools during the heavy hours in which it is more probable that an incident happens. We even have already a budget for the execution of this plan,” explains Organvidez.

The Chief of Police added that the officers that work in the schools, have to be much more than police officers. “We have to teach the children and young generations, values, the importance of family and the community well-being. We need to incentivize them to be better persons and to understand that they have an important role in society.”

With this commitment of supporting the schools, work with the communities, citizen education and police presence, Hernan M. Organvidez takes the lead of the Doral Police Department. We hope that he can count with the support of all the residents in order to guarantee our safety and well-being.

Nuevo Jefe de la Policía de la Ciudad de Doral

 

Hacer a la policía más visible, trabajar con las comunidades y aprovechar los recursos tecnológicos disponibles en materia de seguridad son los objetivos iniciales de su gestión

“Nosotros no podemos trabajar sin la comunidad”. Con esta frase, Hernán M. Organvidez asume la jefatura de la Policía de Doral, avalado por 32 años de experiencia en servicios policiales y de seguridad para el condado de Miami-Dade.

Para Organvidez esta nueva asignación es un regreso a casa, pues formó parte del primer cuerpo policial  contratado del Condado para la ciudad de Doral en el 2005. “Todavía recuerdo en el año 1985 cuando patrullaba lo que  hoy dia es la ciudad de Doral. En ese momento, nada más había galpones de almacenamiento y miren ahora la hermosa comunidad que tenemos”.

El nuevo jefe de la Policía de Doral ha ocupado los rangos de oficial, detective, sargento, teniente, capitán, oficial ejecutivo, comandante, y jefe de la División de Operaciones del Sur. Más recientemente, estuvo trabajando en el sector privado en la compañía Ando Consulting, mientras continuaba brindando servicios de asesoramiento y evaluaciones de seguridad para empresas privadas y entidades públicas.

Cabe destacar que, durante su gestión en la División de Operaciones del Sur, Organvidez estuvo a cargo de la seguridad de 815 mil ciudadanos, manejó una nómina compuesta por mil personas (entre oficiales y civiles) y administró un presupuesto de 125 millones de dólares, lo que da fe de sus capacidades de liderazgo.

A nivel académico, Organvidez tiene una licenciatura en Administración de Justicia Penal de la Universidad Internacional de Florida (FIU, por sus siglas en inglés). Es el primer oficial que representó la ciudad de Doral y se graduó de la Academia Nacional del FBI y posee un certificado del Instituto de Liderazgo de la Universidad de Miami.

¿QUE TRAE PARA DORAL?

En el 2008, Organvidez entregó el servicio policial del condado a la ciudad de Doral que creo su propio departamento.  Hoy, 10 años después, regresa a nuestra ciudad para manejar un departamento conformado por 130 oficiales juramentados y 46 empleados civiles, y con un presupuesto anual de 21 millones de dólares.

“Asumo este nuevo reto, agradecido por el trabajo adelantado por la gestión anterior, el cual fue estupendo. Tengo un equipo conformado por profesionales sumamente comprometidos con su labor, entusiastas y muy vinculados a su comunidad. Estoy recogiendo los frutos de lo que ellos han cosechado para seguir adelante”.

Organvidezasume la dirección de la Policía de Doral convencido de que, para lograr éxito en el trabajo policial, hay que lograr que los oficiales sean más visibles y tengan mayor presencia, trabajar de la mano con las comunidades y aprovechar los recursos tecnológicos disponibles en materia de seguridad.

Organvidez asegura que “la Policía de Doral tiene 130 oficiales para atender a 62 mil habitantes y a más de 200 mil personas que pasan por la ciudad durante el día, por lo cual el apoyo y la denuncia de los vecinos es fundamental. Los ojos y los oídos de los residentes es lo más importante para los agentes policiales y en muchas ocasiones, el punto de partida de importantes investigaciones”.

Al hacer referencia a la cantidad de agentes policiales destacados en la ciudad de Doral, Organvidez manifestó que aún no puede determinar si son necesarios más oficiales, pues este es un tema que debe analizar exhaustivamente antes de tomar una decisión.

El nuevo jefe policial también fue enfático al manifestar que es importante educar al público, especialmente en materia de tránsito. “No podemos conformarnos con poner multas cuando las personas comentan infracciones al manejar, debemos ofrecerle información y orientarlos en el conocimiento y cumplimiento de las leyes”.

Con respecto a la seguridad en las escuelas, que es uno de los temas que más preocupa a la población general en estos momentos, Organvidez manifestó que, si bien este asunto es, técnicamente, responsabilidad de la junta escolar del condado de Miami Dade, la Policía de Doral siempre esta presta a colaborar e incluso se está estudiando la posibilidad de implementar un programa para reforzar la presencia policial a las horas de entrada y salida de los colegios.

“Este programa, de ser aprobado, consistiría en la contratación de oficiales retirados en reserva que estén dispuestos a trabajar medio tiempo para reforzar la seguridad en los colegios durante estas horas que son las más agitadas y propensas a que suceda cualquier imprevisto. Ya, incluso, tenemos el presupuesto para la ejecución de este plan”, explica Organvidez.

Agregó el jefe policial que los oficiales que trabajan en las escuelas, tienen que ser mucho más que policías. “Tenemos que enseñarles a los jóvenes valores, la importancia de la familia y del bienestar comunitario. Hay que incentivarlos ha ser mejores personas y a entender que tienen un importante papel dentro de la sociedad”.

Con este compromiso de atención a las escuelas, trabajo con las comunidades, educación ciudadana y presencia policial, Hernán M. Organvidez tomó las riendas de la Policía de Doral, por lo que esperamos que pueda contar con el apoyo de todos los residentes para garantizar nuestra seguridad y bienestar.
