Runoffs to Decide Doral Mayor and City Council Seat 1

THE MAYOR OF DORAL AND THE COUNCIL MEMBER FOR SEAT 1 WILL BE DECIDED IN A RUN-OFF ELECTION
Council Meetings are suspended until all seats for Council for the City of Doral are elected and certified by the Department of Elections

The seats for Mayor of Doral and seat 1 will be defined in a runoff election, after the results of this past November 8th, 2016 in which the only seat that was defined was Seat 3 to the City of Doral Council, this will continue to be occupied by Christi Fraga after her re-election with 7.896 votes in favor (52.92%).
Luigi Boria, current Mayor of Doral got 5,641(33.38%) votes. For this reason he will face, in a runoff election, Juan Carlos Bermudez who wants to come back to the Mayoral seat and who in this first round got 7,849 (46.44%) votes in favor. Sandra Ruiz got only 3,411 (20.18%) votes, reason for which her quest for the Mayoral seat ends up in this first round.
Christi Fraga was elected without the need of a runoff election when she defeated her opponents, Digna Cabral who got the support of 3,879 (26%) voters and David Hernandez who got 3, 147 (21.09%) votes. This result made seat 3 be the only seat in the City of Doral Council that was elected without the need of a runoff election.
From the six contenders to seat 1, two of them were able to get the majority of the preference of the voters, Claudia Mariaca with 4, 213 (28.57%) votes and Adriana Moyano, who for a lot of people has been the surprise of these elections, with 3,437 (23.31%) votes, they will now face each other in a runoff election. The rest of the contenders for this seat got: Carlos Pereira 2,675 (18.14%), Jackeline Alers 2,060 (13.97%), Enza Mongiovi-Vera 1,703 (11.55%) and Jackelin Guiza 657 (4.46%).
The runoff election is scheduled for December 13th, 2016. The candidates that will run for this election will continue with their campaigns and electoral advertisements. It is scheduled that the Department of Elections will certify the results on December 19th, 2016, finalizing then with this electoral process.
As of now, the seats for Mayor and seat 1 for the City of Doral Council are still open for election, for this reason there will be no Council Meetings until all seats are defined and certified. As of December 21st, 2016 all of the elected officials will be sworn in and will take their corresponding positions.

While celebrating her re-election, Christi Fraga stated that she is very grateful with the Doral community for allowing her the opportunity to serve for 4 more years. “ I will continue working for the city, for the quality of life of our residents, and for the future of all of us.”
“We will continue developing our current projects, Doral today is similar to a house that is under remodeling. We are suffering some discomfort now, but it is a temporary sacrifice that will give us a beautiful city for many years,” indicated the re-elected Council Woman.
Fraga believes that the voters saw her as the unified voice when it was needed and the independent voice when required. “The Doral community has recognized that I have always stayed positive and I have always defended their interests.”
Luigi Boria is firm in keeping his seat as Mayor of Doral and he assured us that he is very happy with these results, and it is important to understand the electoral process. “We are going in the quest of that 20% that Sandra Ruiz got and we know we will get it.”
Boria told us that an important part of his campaign in this runoff election will be to visit the homes of the residents. “We will visit every resident of Doral, we will explain our government plan to because we have important projects for our city and we are sure that the community will give us the opportunity to complete them.”
Juan Carlos Bermudez stated that he is very happy with the result of this first round, because even when he has been out of the municipal government for four years and the million of dollars that were invested and the negative campaign that one of his rivals conducted, he achieved almost a 50%, which he considers a huge victory.
“My message is the same: to rescue the values of our community, control and planned growth, ethics, and transparency,” stated Bermudez when he highlighted his joy with the results of this electoral process, given that he was the winner for almost 15%.
Claudia Mariaca, who was one of the candidates selected by the voters to go to a runoff election for seat 1 of the City of Doral Council, also expressed her happiness for the votes received, because she went through an intense campaign, house by house, explaining her proposal.
Mariaca wishes to continue with the work that she has done so far for the residents as a community activist, through which she has always had as her main objective to improve the quality of life of the families and to have a better city.
In general, to public opinion, the position that Adriana Moyano got, was a “hit” given that she managed to attain second place and now she gets the opportunity to face Claudia Mariaca in this runoff election, she states that she is very happy with the results, because even when she was one of the last candidates to register and to get to be known in the city, she received an important support that is now positioning her closer to the City Council.
Moyano explains that her opponent states that “her strength is that she has been involved in community and political activities, nevertheless, my strength is precisely the fact that I have not been involved before because I represent a new face for the city, with new ideas to rescue our values and the principles of Doral and to improve the time that our residents spend with their families.”
Given the results of this first electoral round and above any political preference, the most important message is still the importance to vote, it will be next December 13th, 2016 when this electoral process finalizes and we then have a definition on the elected officials of Doral.

SE DECIDIRAN EN SEGUNDA VUELTA
Las sesiones del Concejo Municipal están suspendidas hasta que sean electos y certificados por el Departamento de Elecciones todos los cargos en contienda en la Ciudad de Doral

Tanto la Alcaldía de Doral como el cargo de concejal a la silla Nro.1 deberán definirse en segunda vuelta, tras el resultado electoral del pasado 08 de noviembre del 2016 en el que, solamente, pudo definirse la silla Nro. 3 del Concejo Municipal, la cual seguirá siendo ocupada por Christi Fraga, pues fue re-electa con 7,896 (52.92%) votos a favor.
El actual alcalde de Doral, Luigi Boria obtuvo 5,641 (33.38%) votos, por lo que deberá enfrentarse de nuevo en segunda vuelta con Juan Carlos Bermúdez, quien pretende ser de nuevo el primer mandatario regional y en esta primera vuelta logró aglutinar 7,849 (46.44%) votos a su favor. Sandra Ruiz solo obtuvo 3,411(20.18%) votos, por lo que su camino al puesto de alcalde llegó a su fin en este primer proceso electoral.
Christi Fraga fue electa sin necesidad de segunda vuelta, al derrotar a sus oponentes, Digna Cabral, quien consiguió el apoyo de 3,879 (26%) electores y David Hernández, quien se adjudicó 3,147 (21.09%) votos. Este resultado hizo que la silla Nro. 3 se convierta en el único cargo de la Ciudad de Doral electo sin ir a segunda vuelta.
De los seis aspirantes a la silla Nro.1, dos de ellos lograron obtener la mayoría del favor de los electores, Claudia Mariaca con 4,213 (28.57%) votos y Adriana Moyano, quien para muchos ha sido la gran sorpresa de estas elecciones, al obtener 3,437 (23.31%) votos, quienes ahora irán por la decisión final en la segunda vuelta. El resto de los postulantes a este cargo obtuvieron: Carlos Pereira 2,675 (18.14%), Jackeline Alers 2,060 (13.97%), Enza Mongiovi-Vera 1,703 y (11.55%) y Jackelin Guiza 657 (4.46%).
La segunda vuelta está programada para el próximo 13 de diciembre del 2016 y los candidatos que compiten en ella han seguido con sus campañas y publicidades electorales. Se tiene previsto que el Departamento de Elecciones certifique estos resultados el 19 de diciembre del 2016, poniendo fin a este proceso electoral.
Por ahora, los cargos de alcalde y concejal de la silla Nro. 1 de Doral se mantienen en contienda, por lo que no se realizaran sesiones del Concejo Municipal hasta que todos los cargos sean definidos y certificados. Ya para el 21 de diciembre del 2016 se juramentaran las autoridades electas y tomaran posesión de sus respectivos cargos.
EN SUS PROPIAS PALABRAS
Christi Fraga, al celebrar su triunfo, manifestó que está muy agradecida con la comunidad de Doral que le está dando la oportunidad de servirle por cuatro años más. “Voy a seguir trabajando por la ciudad, por la calidad de vida de nuestros residentes y el futuro de todos nosotros”.
“Vamos a seguir desarrollando los proyectos actuales, pues hoy Doral es como una casa que se está remodelando. Ahora estamos sufriendo las incomodidades de los arreglos, pero es un sacrificio momentáneo para tener una ciudad hermosa por muchos años.”, manifestó la concejal re-electa.
Fraga considera que los electores reconocieron en ella, el haber sido la voz unificadora cuando ha sido necesario, así como la voz independiente cuando se ha requerido. “La comunidad de Doral ha reconocido que siempre me ha mantenido positiva y defendiendo sus intereses”.
Luigi Boria sigue en pie de lucha por mantener su cargo como primer mandatario de Doral y aseguró sentirse muy contento con los resultados, pues es muy importante entender el proceso electoral. “Vamos a la conquista de ese 20 % que obtuvo Sandra Ruíz y sabemos que lo vamos a lograr”.
Boria asegura que parte importante de su campaña para esta segunda vuelta serán los recorridos casa por casa. “Vamos a visitar a cada residente de Doral y explicarle nuestro plan de gobierno, porque tenemos proyectos importantes para nuestra ciudad y estamos seguros que la comunidad nos dará la oportunidad de desarrollarlos”.
Mientras que Juan Carlos Bermúdez manifiesta que está muy feliz con el resultado de la primera vuelta, pues a pesar de haber estado fuera del gobierno municipal por cuatro años y de los millones de dólares que invirtió y la campaña negativa que hizo uno de los candidatos, él logró con casi un 50%, lo que considera una tremenda victoria.
“Mi mensaje para esta segunda fase del proceso electoral es el mismo: rescatarlos valores de nuestra comunidad, el crecimiento controlado y planificado, la ética y la transparencia.”, señalo Bermúdez al reiterar su alegría con los resultados de esta jornada electoral, pues ganó por casi un 15%.
Por su parte, Claudia Mariaca, quien fue una de las candidatas seleccionadas por los electores para ir a la segunda vuelta por la silla Nro. 1 del Concejo Municipal, también manifestó su alegría por los votos obtenidos, pues realizó una campaña intensa, casa por casa, explicando su propuesta.
Mariaca aspira continuar con el trabajo que ha hecho hasta ahora por los residentes como activista comunitaria, dentro del cual siempre ha tenido como objetivo principal mejorar la calidad de vida de las familias y tener una ciudad cada vez mejor.
Para la opinión pública en general, el lugar obtenido por Adriana Moyano se convirtió en una “sorpresa electoral”, pues logró llegar en segundo lugar y ahora tendrá la oportunidad de seguir en la contienda, pues se enfrentará con Claudia Mariaca en segunda vuelta y señala que está muy entusiasmada con el resultado, pues a pesar de que fue una de las últimas candidatas en inscribirse y hacerse conocer en la ciudad, recibió un significativo respaldo que la pone más cerca del Concejo Municipal.
Explica Moyano que “mi oponente señala que su fuerte es el haber estado envuelta en la actividad política y comunitaria, sin embargo, mi fuerte es, precisamente, el no haber estado envuelta, pues represento una cara nueva para la ciudad con ideas innovadoras para el rescate de los valores y principios de Doral y para la mejora del tiempo en familia de nuestros residentes”.
Tras los resultados de esta primera ronda electoral y más allá de las preferencias políticas particulares, el mensaje más importante sigue siendo la importancia de acudir a votar, pues será el próximo 13 de diciembre del 2016 cuando el proceso electoral haya finalizado y tengamos definidas en su totalidad las próximas autoridades de Doral.
