I am not writing this to make fun of someone’s English, to disrespect an adult, or doubt any individual’s journalistic ability. I am simply writing to report the truth, to bring to light the point of view of the most important people yet the ones who have been silenced through judgment… the students.

We walk in and out of Ronald Reagan/Doral Sr. High on a daily basis; we interact with another, share each other’s secrets and our lives are intertwined. The reality is that we know what goes on better than anyone else, better than any parent or outsider. So here it is, the honest truth told by an honest source…

I’m not going to lie, there are drugs in Reagan but there are drugs everywhere in the world around us. Being a teenager subjects you to curiosity and a desire to experiment all that there is, both good and bad.

Are there gangs? If you consider the soccer team a “gang” then sure, but realistically speaking, we live in a suburban community where we all grew up together, how can you really claim the existence gangs?

Reagan is a jewel in our community, and in our school district. Within those walls Silver Knight winners have been inspired, Cambridge Scholars have grown intellectually, and the abilities of each and every one of those student has been nurtured. Student Government Officers stay in school through all hours of the night, planning events for their fellow classmates. Theatre students rehearse lines and perform in front of their classmates looking to leave their audience in awe. Student athletes endure practices in the blistering Miami heat, all in hope of representing the school in victory. From Reagan we have seen award-winning productions such as Tatanka, RTV News and The Reagan Advocate emerge; we have seen students take on significant roles in their communities by forming organizations such as Miles for Marli and Sembrando Sonrisas. We have created a family, a royal line, and that is something that no one can deface or take away from us.

Without a doubt, it is ridiculous for anyone to question the caliber of education and success that has derived from Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High School, and should anyone dare to question it, I welcome you to personally spend a day within our school because I am Vice-President of the Student Government Association, I am Editor In Chief of Tatanka Yearbook Staff, and I am a proud bison. I have seen what blasphemous comments do to a community, but more importantly to a student body. The mighty herd was attacked, but we have always been taught that “the strength of the bison is the herd, and the strength of the herd is the bison.” We stand proud to call ourselves bison, proud to bring the truth to light, and proud to refute anyone who undermines our ability and our strength.

No estoy escribiendo esto para burlarme del Inglés de un idividuo, faltar al respeto a un adulto, o de insultar las habilidades periodísticas de algún individúo. Simplemente estoy escribiendo para informar la verdad, para dar a conocer el punto de vista de las personas más importantes, las que han sido silenciadas a través del juicio … los estudiantes.

 Caminamos los pasillos de Ronald Reagan / Doral Senior High en una base diaria, interactuamos uno al otro, compartimos los secretos y nuestras vidas están entrelazadas. La realidad es que nosotros sabemos lo que ocurre mejor que nadie, mejor que cualquier padre u opinión extraña. Así que aquí está, la pura verdad contada por un medio honesto …

Yo no voy a mentir, existe el uso de drogas en Reagan, pero hay drogas en todo el mundo y en todas las escuelas. Un adolescente se somete a la curiosidad y el deseo de experimentar todo lo que hay, tanto lo bueno como lo malo.

¿Hay pandillas? Si se tiene en cuenta el equipo de fútbol una “pandilla”, entonces si claro, pero en términos realistas, vivimos en una comunidad suburbana en la que todos crecimos juntos, ¿cómo se puede asumir la existencia de las pandillas?

Reagan es una joya en nuestra comunidad, y en nuestro distrito escolar. Dentro de esas paredes ganadores  de Silver Knight han sido inspirados, estudiantes de la academia de Cambridge han crecido intelectualmente, y las capacidades de cada uno de los estudiantes ha sido alimentada. Funcionarios del Gobierno Estudiantil permanecen en la escuela a toda hora, la planificación eventos para sus compañeros de clase. Los estudiantes de teatro ensayan líneas y actúan frente de sus compañeros que buscan dejar a su audiencia asombrada. Los estudiantes atletas soportar prácticas en el calor inclemente de Miami, todos con la esperanza de representar a la escuela en una victoria. De Reagan hemos visto producciones premiadas como Tatanka, RTV News y The Reagan Advocate;  hemos visto a los estudiantes asumir un papel importante en sus comunidades atraves  de organizaciones como Miles for Marli y Sembrando Sonrisas. Hemos creado una familia, un linaje magnifico, y eso es algo que nadie puede alterar ni tomar distancia de nosotros.

Sin lugar a dudas, es ridículo para cualquier persona cuestione el calibre de la educación y el éxito que ha derivado de Ronald Reagan / Doral Senior High School, y si alguien se atreve a cuestionarlo, les doy la bienvenida para pasar un día dentro de nuestra escuela porque soy la vicepresidente de la Asociación de Gobierno Estudiantil, soy la editora en jefe de Tatanka, y estoy orgulloso de llamarme un bisonte. He visto lo que los comentarios blasfemos hacen en una comunidad, pero lo más importante es el efecto que tienen en un cuerpo estudiantil. La manada poderosa fue atacada, pero siempre hemos sido enseñados que “la fuerza del bisonte es la manada, y la fuerza de la manada es el bisonte.” Estamos orgullosos de llamarnos bisontes, orgullosos de llevar la verdad a luz, y de refutar cualquier persona que duda nuestra capacidad y nuestra fuerza.
