City of Doral Showcased at eMerge Americas 2019.

DORAL, FL – On its sixth edition this year, eMerge Americas 2019 consolidated as “the premier tech event connecting the Americas”. Two days packed with presentations, exhibitions, and panels, where entrepreneurs, investors, and business executives showcased their products and innovations in technology to incentive investment in South Florida and Latin America.
The City of Doral has participated on eMerge Americas since 2015, and this year for the first time Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez was invited to take part on April 29thof the eGov panel called “Reimagining Cities”.
As the only city in Florida and one of the five cities in the US, to have the Platinum ISO37120 Certification by the World Council on City Data, Doral is the perfect example of a community that is spearheading the efforts to adopt a culture of data collection and analysis to drive innovation.
Other participants on the “Reimagining Cities” panel were Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Giménez and City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez; Mayor Peter Rahbæk Juel, of Odense, Denmark; Alice Bravo, Director of Transportation and Public Works at Miami-Dade County; Susan Reinhold, Senior Director of Sales Engineering at Hotwire Communications; and Helvetia Longoria, Chief Information Security Officer and Saif Ishoof, VP for Engagement at FIU.
“As Mayor, I am committed to continuing our digital government transformation by providing services and solutions that span city administration and citizen services, enabling increased insight, service efficiency and improved citizen outcomes for a better quality of life”, said Mayor Bermudez on an official statement after the event.
Bermudez explained during the panel how the Strategic Smart City Initiatives have enabled upgrading the City’s infrastructure “using sensing technology and data analytics to better manage our assets such as transportation, public safety, and security.” Over the past three years, Doral has implemented 40% of the distinct technology trends in government, suggested by the National League of Cities.
The cities of the future will be those where devices are interconnected, providing real-time data to the public and to the municipality, making managing operations more efficient, predictable and safe. Surveillance and body cameras; transportation congestion sensors and vehicle fleet communication are among those trends that have been adopted in Doral and make it a Smart City 1.0, worthy of being showcased at a cutting-edge event like eMerge Americas.
