City of Doral and Codina Partners break ground on Downtown Doral Park.

–Latest addition to Downtown Doral will include area for cultural activities-

DORAL, FL – The City of Doral and Codina Partners, in association with CM Doral Development Company, celebrated the groundbreaking milestone of Downtown Doral Park, the three-acre public park in Downtown Doral. The park will include an open air pavilion with benches and picnic tables and two play structures geared towards children ages 5 and under and 5-12 years old. Downtown Doral is a mixed-use development set to be the heart of the city and will feature residential units, commercial space and an educational component.

“Downtown Doral will not only benefit our residents but will also help businesses in this area.  It promises to be an economic engine bringing much needed jobs to South Florida,” said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.

Also in attendance were Doral Vice Mayor Michael “Mike” DiPietro; Councilman Luigi Boria; Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez; Councilman Pete Cabrera; Doral City Manager Yvonne Soler-McKinley; Armando Codina, Chairman and CEO, Codina Partners; Ana-Marie Codina Barlick, Director, Codina Partners; Gus Minguez, project manager, Codina Partners; Rafael Sixto, Architect, Sixto Architects, Inc.; and John Leete, General Contractor, John Moriarty & Associates of Florida. The community leaders commemorated the event with a breakfast followed by a golden shovel ceremony.

The park will attract local families to Downtown Doral further positioning it as the heart of the City.”

Codina Partners is the developer of Downtown Doral and dedicated Downtown Doral Park to the City of Doral. The park is expected to be completed by spring 2012 in conjunction with the new Doral Government Center, located directly across from the park. The 60,000 square-foot Doral Government Center is an up to $22 million development that will be LEED Silver certified. The construction of the new Doral Government Center was approved unanimously by the Doral City Council on August 11, 2010 and construction began in October 2010. The building is located on a 1.8 acre site in the vicinity of Northwest 53^rd Terrace and 84^th Avenue and offers 250 parking spaces in Downtown Doral.  When complete, Doral Government Center will be the centerpiece of Downtown Doral.
