In a city where the population, the residential areas, the businesses, and schools continue to grow, traffic has not stopped being a concern to the residents of Doral

Opening of new streets, improvement of the traffic signals and to incentivize the use of public transportation are the base of the alternatives that the City of Doral is developing to decrease the vehicular congestion, to offer higher safety in the streets and to reduce the waiting times while in traffic.

An example of this, as explained by the City Manager, Edward Rojas is the opening of a portion of NW 66^th street, between NW 102^th Avenue and NW 97^th Avenue, this will help ease the traffic in that area and completes the connection between NW 107^th Avenue and NW 97^th Avenue. It also offers an alternative to NW74th and NW58th streets.

“This will improve the connectivity of the vehicular system in Doral for the actual and future residents of developments such as Atlantic, Neovita, Vintage, The Mansions, Doral Palms and Landmark. It will also be a big assistance to the parents that drop off and pick up their children from the Doral International Academy of Math and Science school,” commented Rojas.

Rojas reminded us that the City of Doral is constantly working in easing the concern of the residents as to traffic relates, for this reason in recent times the following streets have been opened: NW 92^nd avenue between NW 25^th and NW 33^rd streets, NW 97^th avenue between NW 70^th and NW 74^th streets, NW 102^nd avenue from NW 78^th street all the way until NW 90^th street, NW 104^th avenue between NW 66^th and NW 74^th streets and NW 109^th avenue from NW 41^st to NW 43^rd streets.

Other projects that are currently in design are the widening from three to five lanes of NW 82^nd avenue from NW 27^th street to NW 33^rd street, the new connection of NW 102^nd avenue between NW 66^th and NW 74^th streets, the widening to five lanes of NW 112^th avenue between NW 25^th and NW 34^th streets and the reconstruction and widening to three lanes of NW 41^st street from NW 79^th to NW 87^th avenue.

Rojas stated that once the network of roads in our city is completed, the city will develop projects to improve the operation of the intersections, these will help alleviate the traffic congestion in Doral, some of these are addition of turning lanes both to the right and left and extension of the turning lanes that are already in existence.

It is also important to highlight other projects that are being developed by other governmental agencies and that involve the City of Doral, some of these are the one along SR 836 and NW 87^th avenue that is currently under construction by the Miami Dade Express Authority (MDX); the connection under SR 836 at NW 82^nd avenue between NW 8^th street and NW 12^th street, also in construction by MDX and Miami Dade County; the widening to five lanes of NW 97^th avenue between NW 52^nd and NW 70^th streets, currently in its design phase by Miami Dade County and the rebuilding of NW 58^th street from the Palmetto Expressway all the way until NW 97^th avenue, also under design by Miami Dade County.

Florida Turnpike Enterprise is planning improvements to the Turnpike between SR 836 and NW 106^th street, these include special lanes and a connecting slip ramp along NW 117^th avenue parallel to Doral Boulevard. Miami Dade County is also building the widening of NW 74^th street between NW 107^th avenue and the Turnpike and the Florida Department of Transportation is widening SR 826 between SR 836 and I-75.

TRAFFIC LIGHT ON NW 74^TH STREET

Thanks to an agreement of joint participation with Miami Dade County and thanks to the support of Commissioner José “Pepe” Diaz, two new traffic lights along NW 74^th street were approved, these have the intend to ease the traffic flow in a synchronized way and to optimize travel times.  These traffic lights will be in operation at the beginning of 2018.

According to what Councilwoman Christi Fraga informed us, one of these traffic lights will be installed in the intersection formed by NW 97^th avenue and NW 74^th street, intersection that every day is used by more drivers, in it there are a lot of left turns and because this is an area with several businesses, it has a big truck use.

The other traffic light will be installed in NW 74^th street in the intersection with NW 102^nd avenue. Fraga reminds us that the portion of street along NW 102^nd avenue between NW 74^th street and NW 90^th street was opened one year ago and that the City of Doral will also be opening another portion of this street between NW 66^th street and NW 74^th street, this will create an uninterrupted connectivity along NW 102^nd avenue all the way from NW 41^st street to NW 90^th street.

Given this, the new NW 102^nd avenue will consist of five lanes (two lanes in each direction and one double-way lane in the middle) and shared lanes for bicycles, this will not only reduce the congestion along NW 107^th avenues but it will also create another North-South corridor inside Doral. “This project is currently in its design phase and it is expected to be finalized by June of 2018”

These conditions guarantee the need of a traffic light on NW 74^th street and NW 102^nd avenue. It is important to take into consideration that once both traffic lights are installed, NW 74^th street will operate under the same scheme of NW 41^st street where there are traffic lights on NW 97^th, 102^nd, 104^th and 107^th avenues.

TROLLEY

Another strategy of the City of Doral to ease traffic in our streets is to incentivize the use of public transportation, for this reason the purchase of an additional trolley was approved, this will take the amount of available trolleys to twelve, decreasing the waiting time of its users. The maximum investment estimated for the purchase of this new unit is $188,483.

This initiative of the Public Works Department of the City of Doral also includes the construction of 10 shelters in trolley stops. The scope of this job implies the cleaning of the area, the cleaning of the sidewalk, the stabilization and pavement of the soil and the removal and/or relocation of the trees, this implies the re-construction of the site. The funds required for this project are $453,327 dollars, which are available within the Transportation Fund of the City of Doral.

The idea of these improvements to the trolley is to widen and improve the operation of this transportation system that provides a comfortable and free commute to the residents of Doral and that is available every day in the week.

Ya fue abierto el nuevo tramo de la 66 calle

…Y QUE ESTAMOS HACIENDO POR MEJORAR EL TRAFICO EN DORAL?

 

En una ciudad donde siguen aumentando la población, las zonas residenciales, los comercios y las escuelas, el tráfico no ha dejado de ser una preocupación para los habitantes de Doral

La apertura de nuevas vías, la mejora en las señalizaciones de tránsito e incentivar el uso del transporte público son la base de las alternativas que desarrolla la Ciudad de Doral para disminuir la congestión vehicular, así como para ofrecer mayor seguridad en las calles y reducir los tiempos de espera en el tráfico.

Un ejemplo de esto, según lo explica el administrador de la Ciudad de Doral, Edward Rojas, es la reciente apertura del nuevo tramo de la 66 calle entre las avenidas 102 y 97 lo cual viene a aliviar el tráfico en esa zona y completa la conexión entre la 107 avenida y 97 avenida. Igualmente, ofrece una ruta alternativa a las calles 74 y 58.

“Esta vía mejorará la conectividad al sistema de tránsito de Doral de los residentes actuales y futuros de conjuntos como Atlantic, Neovita, Vintage, The Mansions, Doral Palms y Landmark. También será de gran ayuda para los padres que llevan y buscan a sus hijos a la escuela Doral International Academy of Math and Science”, comentó Rojas.

Recordó Rojas que la Ciudad de Doral está constantemente trabajando para aliviar las preocupaciones de los resientes en materia de tráfico, por lo que recientemente se han abierto las siguientes vías: avenida 92 entre las calles 25 y 33, avenida 97 entre las calles 70 y 74, avenida 102 desde la calle 78 hasta la calle 90, avenida 104 entre las calles 66 y 74, avenida 109 desde la 41 hasta la 43 calle.

Otros proyectos que están actualmente en diseño son: la ampliación de tres a cinco carriles de la 82 avenida de la 27 calle hasta la 33 calle, la nueva conexión en la 102 avenida entre las calles 66 y 74, la extensión a cinco carriles de la 112 avenida entre las calles 25 y 34 y la reconstrucción y ampliación a tres carriles de la calle 41 desde la 79 avenida hasta la 87.

Manifestó Rojas que, al completar la red de carreteras de nuestra ciudad, se desarrollarán proyectos de mejoras operacionales en las intersecciones que ayudarán a aliviar la congestión en Doral, tales como la adición de carriles de giro a la derecha e izquierda y extensión de los carriles de giro ya existentes.

También es importante resaltar los proyectos que están desarrollando otras agencias gubernamentales y que involucran a la Ciudad de Doral, como las mejoras entre en la SR 836 y la 87 avenida actualmente en construcción por Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX); la conexión debajo de la SR 836 en la 82 avenida entre la calle 8 y la 12 del noroeste, en construcción por MDX y el Condado de Miami Dade; la ampliación a cinco carriles de la 97 avenida entre las calles 52 y 70, en diseño por el Condado de Miami-Dade y la reconstrucción de la 58 calle desde la Palmetto Expressway hasta la 97 avenida, también en diseño por el Condado de Miami Dade.

La Florida Turnpike Enterprise’s está planificando mejoras en la Turnpike entre SR 836 y 106 calle que incluyen carriles administrados y la conexión de una rampa de deslizamiento a lo largo de 117 avenida sobre el Doral Boulevard. Por el Condado de Miami Dade está en construcción la ampliación de la 74 calle entre la 107 avenida y la Turnpike y por el Departamento de Transporte de la Florida también está en construcción la ampliación del SR 826, entre SR 836 y la I-75.

SEMAFOROS EN LA 74 CALLE

Gracias a un acuerdo de participación conjunta con el Condado de Miami Dade y gracias al apoyo del Comisionado José “Pepe” Díaz se logró la aprobación de dos nuevos semáforos en la 74 calle con la intención de que tráfico fluya sincronizadamente y se optimicen los tiempos de viaje. Estos semáforos estarán operativos a principios de 2018.

De acuerdo a lo informado por la concejal Christi Fraga, uno de estos semáforos estará en la intersección de la 74 calle y la 97 avenida, vía que cada día es usada por más conductores, en la cual se realizan muchos giros a la izquierda y por tratarse de un área con varias empresas, tiene un tráfico recurrente de camiones.

El otro semáforo sería colocado en la 74 calle en la intersección con la 102 avenida. Recuerda la concejal Fraga que el segmento de la 102 avenida entre las calles 74 y 90 fue abierto ya hace un año y que la Ciudad de Doral también estará abriendo otro fragmento de la 102 avenida entre las calles 66 y 74 que creará conectividad ininterrumpida en la 102 desde la 41 hasta la 90 calle.

De este modo, la nueva 102 avenida incluirá cinco carriles de viaje (dos carriles en cada dirección y un carril de doble sentido al centro) y carriles de uso compartido de bicicletas, que no sólo reducirá la congestión de tráfico en la 107 avenida, sino que también creará otro corredor de norte a sur dentro de Doral. “Este proyecto se encuentra actualmente en fase de diseño y se espera que esté terminado para junio de 2018”.

Estas condiciones hacen necesario este nuevo semáforo en la 74 calle con la 102 avenida.  

Es importante tener en cuenta que una vez que ambas señales de tráfico estén instaladas, la calle 74 funcionaría bajo el mismo esquema que la 41 calle donde hay señales de tráfico en las avenidas 97, 102, 104 y 107.

TROLLEY

Incentivar el uso del transporte público es otra de las estrategias que la Ciudad de Doral utiliza para aliviar el tráfico en nuestras calles, por lo que fue aprobada la compra de una unidad adicional de Trolley para llevar a doce el número de vehículos disponibles, disminuyendo así los tiempos de espera de los usuarios. La inversión máxima estimada para la adquisición de esta nueva unidad de Trolley es de 188 mil 483 dólares.

Esta iniciativa del Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de Doral también incluye la construcción de 10 refugios en paradas de Trolley. El ámbito de este trabajo implica el mantenimiento del área, la limpieza de la acera, la estabilización y pavimentación de suelos y la remoción y/o reubicación de árboles, lo que implica la re-construcción del sitio. Los fondos requeridos para este proyecto ascienden a 453,327 dólares, los cuales están disponibles dentro del Fondo de Transporte de la Ciudad de Doral.

La idea de estas mejoras al Trolley es ampliar y mejorar el funcionamiento de este sistema de transporte que provee una forma de movilización cómoda y gratuita para los residentes de Doral y funciona todos los días de la semana.
