City of Doral Takes Local Action in Celebrating 4th Anniversary of Let’s Move!
Doral, FL – During the month of February, the City of Doral celebrated the 4th Anniversary of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative. Let’s Move! is built on the 
premise that everyone has a role to play in reducing childhood obesity – from businesses and communities to child care providers, faith leaders, chefs, schools, mayors, parents and individuals.
As a component of Let’s Move!, communities across the country are participating in Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties (LMCTC), which calls upon local elected officials to adopt sustainable and holistic approaches that improve communities’ access to healthy affordable food and opportunities for physical activity through five goal areas:
- Creating a healthy start for children
- Empowering parents and caregivers
- Providing healthy food in schools
- Improving access to healthy, affordable foods
- Increasing physical activity
“Many of the best, most innovative, most effective solutions start in our city halls and our towns and our county councils. They start with leaders who see people’s struggles up close and who govern where people see it and feel it the most,” said First Lady Michelle Obama.
In celebration of this anniversary, the City of Doral has made the commitment to being a healthier place to live, work, learn and play by officially joining in the LMCTC initiative and vowing to work to achieve the five goals of the initiative. LMCTC sites have the opportunity to earn up to five gold medals, one for each actionable goal to which they commit as part of the initiative. The City of Doral has already achieved three medals for the following categories: Goal 3 (Smart Servings), Goal 4 (Model Food Service) and Goal 5 (Active Kids at Play).
The National League of Cities (NLC) is working in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Association of Counties and other nonprofit organizations to assist local elected officials who join LMCTC as they implement policy and environmental changes to prevent childhood obesity.

Celebrando IV aniversario de “Vamos a Movernos”!
Doral, FL – Durante el mes de febrero, la Ciudad de Doral celebró el cuarto aniversario de la iniciativa de la Primera Dama, Michelle Obama, “Vamos a Movernos – Let’s Move”!
Vamos a Movernos! está construido sobre la premisa de que todos tenemos un rol que desempeñar en la reducción de la obesidad infantil – desde las empresas, así como las comunidades, centro de cuidado de niños, líderes religiosos, chefs, escuelas, alcaldes, padres de familia y cualquier individuo.
Como componente de “Vamos a Movernos”!, las comunidades de todo el país están participando en este programa en el que instan a los funcionarios electos locales a adoptar enfoques sostenibles e integrales para mejorar el acceso de las comunidades a los alimentos saludables y económicos así como las oportunidades para la actividad física a través de cinco puntos básicos:
- Crear un comienzo saludable para los menores
- Dotar de poder a padres de familia y a puericultores
- Procurar que en las escuelas se ofrezca alimentación saludable
- Mejorar el acceso a alimentos sanos.
- Incrementar la actividad física.

Las soluciones se inician con los líderes que ven las luchas populares de cerca y que gobiernan donde las personas los ven y lo sienten más”, dijo la Primera Dama, Michelle Obama.
En la celebración de este aniversario , la Ciudad de Doral ha hecho el compromiso de ser un lugar más saludable para vivir, trabajar , aprender y jugar al unirse oficialmente a la iniciativa Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties, por sus sigles en ingles LMCTC y se comprometió a seguir trabajando para alcanzar estos cinco objetivos de la iniciativa. Todas las ciudades y condados tienen la oportunidad de ganar hasta cinco medallas de oro, una para cada meta lograda en las que se comprometieron en el marco de esta iniciativa. La Ciudad de Doral ya ha conseguido tres medallas para las siguientes categorías: Objetivo 3 (Porciones Inteligentes), el Objetivo 4 (Modelo para el Servicio de Alimentos) y el Objetivo 5 ( Niños Activos en el Juego ) .
La Liga Nacional de Ciudades (NLC por sus siglas en ingles) está trabajando en colaboración con el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Estados Unidos, el apoyo del Departamento de Agricultura de U.S.A., la Asociación Nacional de Condados y otras organizaciones sin fines de lucro para ayudar a los funcionarios electos locales que se unen a LMCTC para implementar medidas para prevenir la obesidad infantil.
