Danny Espino ceremonial swearing in took place at DDCES

DORAL, FL – On Thursday night, Dec. 8, the ceremonial swearing in event for Danny Espino as the new District 5 School Board Member of Miami-Dade County took place at Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School.

Espino was appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on November 22, 2022, to fill an expired term, succeeding Board Member Christi Fraga who currently is on the run for Doral Mayor.

In naming him as Board Member, DeSantis said at the time, “the appointment is evidence of my utmost confidence in Mr. Espino’s ability to serve with excellence and distinction, finding him to be a qualified and ethical individual.”

On his new role, Espino stated, “I take up this position on the School Board with the same clarity of purpose and care that I dedicate to being a parent. It’s never been more difficult to be a parent in the United States, and there’s never been a more critical time for parents to play a central role in education. I’m proud to contribute my voice to that.”

The District 5 School Board Member of Miami-Dade County Public Schools is the father of four boys, three of which go to Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, one of the schools that make up for District 5 and that from now on he will represent. He lives with his four children and wife, Barbie, in Miami Springs.

Currently a partner in the law firm of Bercow Radell Fernandez Larkin & Tapanes, Danny Espino has had a long career in public service. He was elected to two terms to the City Council for the City of Miami Springs and served for more than a decade as City attorney in and for several Miami-Dade County municipalities, including District 5 cities, City of Doral, City of Miami Springs, and Town of Medley.

Daniel Espino will serve the remainder of Ms. Fraga’s term, which concludes in 2024.

  • Congratulations Dan!

Since we met when you participated in the Greater Miami chamber’s Leadership Miami when I sat on the Leadership Board a decade ago, I knew you had a gift. We have been friends ever since, and I know you are an ethical, caring, and professional person with a wonderful wife and four fantastic children. Madelin and my family applaud your appointment and the background you bring to MDCPS. Having school board members with school-age children brings a necessary insight and eye-opening. Seeing and hearing your sweating-in was truly special. Your speech was impactful and a depiction of why we need you. “I take up this position on the School Board with the same clarity of purpose and care that I dedicate to being a parent. It’s never been more difficult to be a parent in the United States, and there’s never been a more critical time for parents to play a central role in education. Congratulations Dan. My family, SALAD (Spanish American League Against Discrimination), and I look forward to helping you, the board, administration, and staff to help our student community excel. Blessings, my friend!
