First International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is now available at DDCUS
Doral, FL – Downtown Doral Charter Upper School (DDCUS) is now an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This authorization marks the school’s milestone as the only IB institution in the City of Doral. The IB program is a highly regarded and rigorous curriculum based on a collaborative, college preparatory, dual-language educational program for grades six through 10.
“Congratulations to the team at Downtown Doral Charter Upper School, and their staunch commitment to providing the highest level of educational programs to our students with the IB Middle Years Programme,” said Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg, Head of Schools at Downtown Doral Charter Schools.
“This is the first step in achieving our goal of becoming the only continuous IB school system in Miami-Dade County that will run from the elementary/primary years through the diploma programme (for grades 11 and 12).”
The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The program is designed to empower students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally, and globally. Its goal is to produce creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.
DDCUS received authorization after completing one year of candidacy that qualified the learning institution for the program. In preparation for the MYP, instruction at DDCUS shifted to project-based instruction, teachers across departments have been trained on the IB methodology, and each department includes an IB specialist.
“Our goal at DDCUS is to create global citizens and the IB Middle Years Programme is crucial to helping secure our students’ success,” added Kimberly Ortiz, Principal at DDCUS.
The IB Programme is globally recognized and respected as a comprehensive and challenging curriculum. Founded in 1968, the IB organization is a non-profit foundation that offers an international education for students from ages 3 – 19. Its focus is to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills for an independent-thinking student.
