Florida will put in place new measures to control irregular migration
DORAL, FL – During a press conference in Jacksonville, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced new measures to control irregular migration in the state.
According to DeSantis, one of the measures will be to review the records of migrants who apply for employment.
Regarding this topic, the governor said he wants to make mandatory the use of “E-Verfiy,” a web-based system that allows employees to confirm whether or not a person applying for a job has permission to work in the country. At this time, private employees are not required to use the E-Verify system.
He also proposed to increase prison time for anyone found guilty of human trafficking. Under the new legislation, there would be an additional charge for each victim of this crime and the charges would be more serious, if the person is under 18 years of age.
In addition, the governor intends to request hospitals data that reveals how much it costs to provide medical care to undocumented immigrants.
“We are fighting on behalf of all Floridians, and we believe that if other states implement similar measures to the ones I proposed, it will make a big difference,” he stated.
DeSantis also said the migration crisis finds its roots in the Biden administration decisions. Recently, Miami-Dade experienced a massive arrival of migrants coming from countries such as Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua that exceeded the capacity of schools.
A few days ago, the Biden administration announced a new measure that will deny asylum to migrants who showed up at the southern border of the country, without having previously requested protection in another nation through which they have passed.
