Medley residents and officials complaint against Councilman Edgar Ayala for harassment
Medley residents and officials reported Councilman Edgar Ayala for bullying, inappropriate comments, and unethical conduct.
“I have endured teasing and bullying for a long time,” said resident Odalis A. Torres during a City Council meeting. She expressed that on one occasion the Councilman demanded her to remove a shirt in support of Mayor Roberto Mantell. “He told me, ‘Didn’t you realize the campaign is over? Take off that pullover!’’. I refused but he insisted”.
On the other hand, Public official Lizmari Valido said during another Council meeting that Ayala made sexist comments to her, asked her to pick family members in exchange for his “support to other candidates” and implied that he had spoken to the council in private regarding agenda items, which is a violation of the sunshine law.
“As an elected official, you hold a lot of power but you are misusing it for your own agenda instead of the wellbeing of Town. You have placed unreasonable obstacles to make sure I cannot run my department and you have attempted to manipulate staff. In the 20 plus years that I have lived here, I have never felt so humiliated, bullied and disrespected,” said Valido.

Residentes y funcionarios de Medley denunciaron al Concejal Édgar Ayala por intimidación, comentarios inapropiados y conducta antiética.
“He aguantado burlas y comentarios intimidantes por mucho tiempo”, manifestó la residente Odalis A. Torres durante una reunión del Concejo Municipal, quien contó que en una ocasión el Concejal le exigió que se quitara una camiseta de apoyo al Alcalde Roberto Mantell. “Me dijo ‘¿No te has dado cuenta que la campaña terminó?, ¡quítate ese pullover!’. Yo me negué pero el insistió”.
Por su parte, la funcionaria pública Lizmari Valido aseguró durante otra reunión del Concejo que Ayala le hizo comentarios de corte sexista, le pidió que contratara a miembros de su familia como retribución a su “apoyo a otros candidatos” e infirió que habría hablado con el concejo en privado sobre asuntos de la agenda, lo cual es una violación a la ley.
“Como oficial elegido, usted tiene mucho poder pero lo está usando para sus intereses propios y no para el bien común. Usted ha puesto muchos obstáculos para que no pueda ejercer mi cargo y ha intentado manipular al personal. En los 20 años que llevo acá, nunca me había sentido tan humillada, intimidada e irrespetada”, aseguró.
