The 2011 Latinbiz Women of Virtue Prize honor those remarkable professional women who all through their virtues and work achieved a social and economical change in our community. Adding to that, they help other women, and stand as exceptional role models, showing a extraordinary performance for their professions, allowing the rest to advance and show up in all the fields. Every year, the Organization chooses 13 winners among hundreds of nominations. The city of Doral has been honored having three of our resident business women to receive this wonderful prize. They are: Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera, Director of Economic Development for the City of Doral; Dominique Barba, President of the Education Committee of Doral Community Coalition and outstanding collaborator of Doral Family Journal; and Maricarmen Sega, President of the Peruvian-American Chamber of Commerce of South Florida. When they learned about the fabulous news, these remarkable women commented:

Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera

Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera: The City of Doral had had the privilege to count with her entrepreneurial capacity to achieve the economical development that poses the city as leader in South Florida. Of Cuban origin, Bettina had been taking part of several positive facts impacting Miami-Dade County, and for which had been recognized often. She told us this prize is important because it serves as inspiration for other women to fight to achieve their goals. “Looking at common people overcome difficult obstacles without renouncing of their dreams is a huge motivation”. Jose Marti’s doctrine had been her guidance, and one of his phrases: “Bad people win when good people are indifferent,” has been her most important reference, with the certainty that one is its own best judge, and with the incentive of that the passion born in her heart every day pushes her forward to complete her tasks, and live her life full. Bettina added she is very proud of her fellow winners, many of those she knows and care about deeply. “To achieve your goals is not easy when one faces continuous obstacles, but the satisfaction is overwhelming when one gets there. I ask all my fellow women to keep working with passion, and not to let that flame lighting their hearts and pushing always forward to die”.

Maricarmen Sega

Maricarmen Sega: As President of the Peruvian-American Chamber of Commerce of South Florida established in Doral, had been the head of several beneficial projects for the Latin community. Always active, she is always there to help whoever needs her. Maricarmen lives aware of her community. In her offices of the Free Zone had been made seminars and conferences addressed to inform the community about commerce, immigration, finances, etc., and her next big project is “Taste of Peru,” a culinary festival to take place the 11th, 12th, and 13th of November at the Miami Airport Hotel and Convention Center. Mrs. Sega calls the community to participate, most of all the students of superior schools, with the chance to see in this event the opportunity to learn about this art, and then probably choose it as a profession later on. Maricarmen told us she wasn’t waiting for this prize and it was a happy surprise, and that she is grateful to Latinbiz for the award. About the other winners commented she’s been long time friends with many of them, all of them successful women working with much love and sacrifices, always at the service of the community. “I am proud of these women, for their human quality and constant desires of better themselves”.

Dominique Barba

In the other hand, it is of enormous pride for us to have in our team our friend and big collaborator, Dominique Barba, who for over ten years now, has develop her job in the education area, here in the City of Doral. To leader the Education Committee of Doral Community Coalition allowed her to broad her opportunities to support the system, and at the same time, to have more resources for a correct and continuous investigation. From the very beginning this newspaper gave her the opportunity to inform, to promote reforms and make the community aware of eventualities concerning education. As well as for the rest of the winners, the prize was a big excitement, almost indescribable: “One never thinks of recognition when working from the heart, but it is beautiful to see that what had been done was impacting enough for a group as important as Latinbiz to want to recognize it, and in such a way”. For us, Dominique is a patient, optimistic, humble, dedicated and lovely woman, among other virtues adorning her character inside and outside Doral.

Among the other winners we can cite: Reyna Aday from Smoking Cessation, Specialist at Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center (AHEC); Jennifer Diaz, Lawyer and President of the Organization of Women in International Trade South Florida Chapter (OWIT); Olga Hasbun, Founder of VIP Associates & Co.; Linda Kubie, President of  The Perfect Food;  Nancy Mathews, President and  Co-Founder of Women Prosperity Network; Gloria P. Ruiz, Professor and Director of the Institute of Communication, Entertainment and Media of the University of St. Thomas; Kimberly Shenker-Bacardi, Founder of Kim’s Good Karma Group and Beatriz Torrente, President of Resume Again.
