Sport and cultural events continue getting canceled amid Coronavirus fears
DORAL, FL – Coronavirus continues affecting people in the great Miami area where sport and cultural events are being canceled or postponed daily in an effort to prevent the virus from spreading widely.
Two days ago, Ultra Music Festival, that was planned to take place from March 20-22 in Bayfront Park, was postponed until next year pending a final decision about the festival’s future from Mayor Francis Suarez.
Today, City of Miami leaders and Mayor Suarez confirmed in a news conference that the festival was going to be canceled alongside Calle 8 Festival scheduled for March 15.
This is due to the risk these massive events imply for the community amid coronavirus fears. Calle Ocho Festival, for instance, attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year to Little Havana.
“They have a number of logistical complications with those decisions that may make postponement difficult for this year, so we will be working with them on mitigating factors for the impact for those events going forward,” Suarez said.
Other events that Miami officials are thinking about suspending or canceling are the tennis tournament Miami Open, to be celebrated at Hard Rock Stadium between March 23 and April 5, and Nascar that is initially planed to be taken place in Homestead on March 22.
