Young Marines will have new Headquarters in Doral.

The mission of Young Marines is to make a positive impact on the future of the United States, through the development of programs for children to strengthen their values, shape their character and make them into exemplary citizens.
To reinforce these principles, the city of Doral welcomed the latest class of the PFC Bruce W. Carter Young Marines Unit, on their graduation ceremony which was held last month with the support of Vice Mayor Sandra Ruiz, who expressed great pride on receiving these young men and women, a true representation of our nation’s values.
“These 45 young marines received their recognition in our city and this makes me very proud. I am also happy to know that they will now have headquarters here in Doral, where they will be able to carry out their administrative work, assist the kids who wish to be part of this brave group, work with the volunteers and receive donations”, informed Vice Mayor Ruiz.
The PFC Bruce W. Carter Young Marines Unit already receives support from the city of Doral, as they currently train at the police station located on 58th Street. We hope that this new headquarters, located at 3900 NW 79 Ave, Suite # 468 to be officially opened on May 23rd. 2015, will ease the operations of this honorable institution.
Vice Mayor Ruiz expressed that it is with great pride that the city welcomes this group of young men and woman devoted to strengthen character and discipline. “Young Marines promote team work, sports and moral values, therefore they honor our city with their presence”.
The PFC Bruce W. Carter Young Marines Unit is named after a fabulous kid who attended Miami Springs High School and who enlisted with the Young Marines from a very young age. On August 7th, 1969, at the age of 19, he sacrificed his life to protect his fellow Marines from a grenade, and for this he was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously and his name represents the Marine Corps.
LIFE VALUES
Young Marines was founded in 1958 by members of the Marine Corps in Waterbury, Connecticut, and in 1975 the membership was opened to women. All Young Marines units are leaded by a group of adult volunteers, many of them are still in active duty, others are retired, or on the reserve and there are also former marines, who teach these youngsters the fundamental values of honor, courage and commitment.
As explained by PFC Bruce W. Carter Young Marines Unit Commander, CWO3 Kenneth D. Ottley, USMC (Retired), generation after generation, this institution has shaped good United States citizens, by motivating mental, moral and physical development.
“Honor, courage, commitment, discipline, leadership and team work are the fundamental values of Young Marines. Therefore we hope that the boys and girls who join the Unit grow to become well-rounded citizens respectful of human dignity, with decision making abilities, determination and dedication, who respect authority, and are able to develop strategic military thinking and cooperation skills”.
These values are taught as part of the Young Marine’s conduct, which leads them to carry out their own actions based on such values. “For example, we have a kid, that by his own initiative protected a classmate who was being bullied; and we have a young girl who decided to let her hair grow for a very long time to donate it to the children with cancer. These are examples of the influence that Young Marines have in the character of our boys and girls”, claims Commander Ottley.
The Young Marines program is opened to every boy and girl, from age eight until the end of High School and it includes their participation in a series of programs and activities, such as 50 hours of community service per year. After completing these activities they receive a ribbon of recognition, to which they may add stars depending on the merits they achieve.
Among the activities carried out by the Young Marines we may mention the National Academy of Leadership, where they learn how to handle difficult situations; The Great American History Adventure, an educational program designed to motivate interest in the history of the United States, and the US Space and Rocket Center, dedicated to develop interest in mathematics, science and aviation.
One of the programs is called Scuba, and it intends to teach youngsters how to manage in an aquatic environment. “Other very important activities are the camps, in which young boys and girls learn how to survive in nature where the value of team work proves to be of great importance”, claims Commander Ottley.
The young marines also participate in many activities to honor and serve the veterans of our nation. But the anti-drug education program deserves our attention. “One of the pillars of Young Marines is to establish positive life styles, free of drugs, keeping the kids educated in regards to the negative effects of drugs”.

YOUNG MARINES TENDRAN NUEVA SEDE EN DORAL

La misión de los Young Marines (infantes de marina jóvenes, en español) es impactar positivamente el futuro de Estados Unidos, a través de programas de desarrollo para niños y niñas que nutran sus valores, formen su carácter y los conviertan en ciudadanos ejemplares.
Basándose en el apoyo a estos principios, la ciudad de Doral acogió a la más reciente promoción de la Unidad PFC Bruce W. Carter de los Young Marines, realizada a finales del mes pasado y la cual fue promovida por la vice alcaldesa Sandra Ruiz, quien expresó su orgullo por recibir a estos jóvenes, símbolo de los valores patrios.
“Estos 45 jóvenes marines recibieron su reconocimiento en nuestra ciudad y esto me hace sentir sumamente orgullosa. Igualmente, estoy feliz de saber que ahora tendrán una sede aquí en Doral, donde podrán realizar sus labores administrativas, atender a los niños que quieran integrase a este valeroso grupo, trabajar con los voluntarios y recibir las donaciones”, comenta la vice-alcaldesa Ruiz.
Ya la Unidad PFC Bruce W. Carter de los Young Marines recibe apoyo de la ciudad de Doral, pues realizan sus entrenamientos en la estación de policía de la 58 calle. Se espera que esta nueva sede, que estará ubicada en la 3900 NW con la 79 avenida en la Suite # 468 y cuyo corte de cinta se efectuará el próximo 23 de mayo del 2015, facilite la operatividad de esta digna institución.
La vice alcaldesa Ruiz manifestó que es un profundo orgullo para la ciudad dar cabida a este grupo de jóvenes dedicados a fortalecer el carácter y la disciplina. “Los Young Marines promueven el trabajo en el quipo, estimulan el deporte y propagan valores morales, por lo que nos enaltece que ellos estén en Doral”.
La Unidad PFC Bruce W. Carter de los Young Marines recibe su nombre en honor a Bruce W. Carter, un fabuloso chico que asistió a Miami Springs High School y desde pequeño se alistó en los Young Marines. A los 19 años, el 07 de agosto de 1969, sacrificó su vida para proteger a sus compañeros de una granada, por lo que recibió la Medalla de Honor del Congreso de los Estados Unidos a título póstumo y su nombre es símbolo de los infantes de marina.
VALORES DE VIDA
Los Young Marines fueron fundados en 1958 por miembros del Cuerpo de Marines en Waterbury, Connecticut y en 1975, la membresía se extendió a las mujeres. Todas las divisiones de los Young Marines son dirigidas por un grupo de voluntarios adultos, muchos de ellos en servicio activo, en retiro, de reserva o ex – marines, de quienes los jóvenes marines aprenden los valores fundamentales de honor, coraje y compromiso.
Así nos lo explica el Comandante de la Unidad PFC Bruce W. Carter de los Young Marines, CWO3 Kenneth D. Ottley, USMC (Retired), quien comenta que, generación tras generación, esta institución ha formado a hombres y mujeres de bien en Estados Unidos, promoviendo su desarrollo mental, moral y físico.
“Honor, coraje, compromiso, disciplina, liderazgo y trabajo en equipo son los valores fundamentales de los Young Marines, a través de los cuales esperamos que los niños y jóvenes se formen en la integridad y el respeto a la dignidad humana, la capacidad para tomar decisiones, la determinación y la dedicación, el respeto a la autoridad, el pensamiento estratégico militar y la cooperación”.
Estos valores son inculcados en la conducta de los Young Marines y los lleva a desarrollar sus propias acciones, inspiradas en los mismos. “Por ejemplo, tenemos un muchacho que, por su propia iniciativa, protegió a un compañero de clases que estaba siendo víctima de bullying y una jovencita que decidió dejar crecer su cabello por un largo tiempo para donárselo a los niños con cáncer. Estos son ejemplos de la influencia que logran los Young Marines en la formación de nuestros jóvenes”, indica el Comandante Ottley.
El programa de los Young Marines está abierto a todos los niños y niñas, desde los ocho años de edad hasta la finalización del High School y conlleva la participación en una serie de programas y actividades, como la realización de un mínimo de 50 horas comunitarias al año. Cuando las completan reciben una cinta de reconocimiento, a la cual se le pueden ir añadiendo estrellas según los méritos alcanzados por los chicos.
Entre las actividades que realizan los Young Marines se pueden mencionar la Academia Nacional de Liderazgo, donde aprender a manejar situaciones difíciles; The Great American History Aventure que es un programa educativo diseñado para estimular el interés por la historia de Estados Unidos y el US Space and Rocket Center, destinado a desarrollar el interés en las matemáticas, la ciencia y la aviación.
Otro programa, denominado Scuba, pretende enseñar a los jóvenes a desenvolverse en el ambiente acuático. “Una actividad muy importante son los campamentos, en los que jóvenes aprenden a sobrevivir en la naturaleza y el valor del trabajo en equipo adquiere mayor importancia”, comenta el Comandante Ottley.
Los jóvenes marines también participan en muchas actividades para honrar y servir a los veteranos de nuestra nación y mención especial tiene la educación anti-drogas. “Uno de los pilares de los Young Marines es instaurar estilos de vida positivos y libre de drogas, manteniendo a los muchachos educados en los efectos negativos de los estupefacientes”.
