Elections are Coming

As most of you are aware, elections are right around the corner. From now until then, you will hear plenty about our community and the candidates. Some candidates will speak to you about a golden era from a not too distant past, which has either inevitably faded or changed. These will also tell you not to worry because a “rescuer” is surely at hand. Others will fill the pages of newspapers, flyers, and door hangers with many assertions. They want to serve, they will give the residents more of a voice, they have the experience and the skills, and they will bring additional transparency and honesty to our Council. These will be coupled with assurances that if he or she is elected to the Council, their votes will not be beholden to any “old” political alliances or factions. Because after all, if there is anything that we should expect from our City leaders is that they be educated, energetic, hard-working, representative, and substantive; that they be filled with a fresh, positive, forward-looking, fiscally responsible perspective that compels trust. Most importantly, that in their desire to serve the public, they also have the ability to work in consensus on behalf of the people whose interests they have sworn to look after.
If in addition, we can bear the television commercials, the phone calls, and the copious amount of mail that we receive (not to mention the negative campaigning), and we can take a moment to examine, who is who, what they’ve accomplished, and truly ask ourselves about their future potential for taking this bright and bold community into the future, we might be surprised at what we find.
Doral is where I grew up. It is where I transitioned into a successful adult, business-owner, and public servant. It is also where I chose to start a family. I care deeply about this community. I believe Doral needs positive, professional, and proactive leaders dedicated to working together on the Council to implement a clear and cohesive vision for the future of our City.
Over the next few months, in this space, you will read in more detail about what I’ve accomplished with your support while serving on the Doral City Council. I will also be providing information about our City, about who I am, and about my continued commitment to Doral. It’s my hope, that this knowledge will help you make an informed decision on November 8th. It’s also my hope that if you have any questions prior to making your decision, you will take the time to call or write me, and I will be happy to respond and/or visit you in the comfort of your home to discuss how your City and I can be of better service to you and your family now and in the future.
For right now, I can tell you that I’ve been dedicated to improving Doral’s quality of life, and I will continue to work hard in order to ensure that it remains a great place to live, work, learn, play, and raise a family for present and future generations. I’m also certain that if we work together, no one will be able to stop us from forging a bright and bold future for our City.

Las elecciones se acercan

Como ustedes saben, las elecciones se acercan y durante los próximos meses, escucharemos bastante sobre nuestra ciudad y los candidatos. Algunos nos hablarán acerca de una era de oro que ocurrió durante un pasado no muy lejano, y que inevitablemente se ha desvanecido o quizás cambiado. Estos también les dirán que no tienen nada de qué preocuparse, ya que alguien también ha llegado para rescatarnos. Otros llenarán las páginas de los periódicos, folletos, y avisos de puertas con muchas promesas. Ellos quieren servir. Ellos les darán más volumen a las voces de los residentes. Ellos tienen experiencia y conocimientos, y traerán más transparencia y honestidad a nuestro Concejo. A esto añadirán que si él o ella es elegido al Concejo, sus votos no estarán sujetos a las “viejas” alianzas políticas que existen en nuestra ciudad. Porque después de todo, si hay algo que debemos esperar de nuestros líderes es que sean educados, que tengan energía, que trabajen y representen con sustancia y capacidad; que tengan una visión fresca, positiva, que miren hacia el futuro con gran responsabilidad fiscal y que nos inspiren confianza. Lo más importante es que tengan un deseo de servir al público, la capacidad para trabajar en consenso, y en nombre de los residentes cuyos intereses han jurado cuidar.
Si además de todo esto, logramos soportar los anuncios de televisión, las llamadas telefónicas, y la gran cantidad de correspondencia que recibiremos (dejemos a un lado la incomodidad de las campañas negativas), y nos podemos tomar el tiempo para examinar, quién es quién, que han logrado, y verdaderamente nos preguntamos qué potencial tiene esta persona para guiar a esta comunidad hacia un futuro brillante y audaz, es posible que lo que encontremos nos sorprenda.
Doral es donde yo me crie y crecí. Aquí me convertí en una persona adulta, emprendedora, empresaria y servidora pública. Es también donde decidí constituir mi familia. Esta comunidad es muy importante para mí. Creo que Doral necesita líderes positivos, profesionales, y proactivos, que se dediquen a trabajar juntos en el Concejo para implementar una visión clara para el futuro de nuestra ciudad.
Durante los próximos meses, en este espacio, usted podrá leer acerca de lo que he logrado, gracias a su apoyo, durante el tiempo que he servido en el Concejo de Doral. También les proporcionaré información sobre nuestra ciudad, acerca de quién soy, y como continuare mi compromiso con Doral. Espero que todo esto le ayude a tomar una decisión informada en las elecciones del 8 de noviembre. Espero también que si usted tiene alguna pregunta, antes de tomar su decisión, me llame o me escriba, ya que me encantaría responderle o visitarle en la comodidad de su casa para ver cómo su ciudad y yo podemos ofrecerle mejor servicio a usted y a su familia de ahora en adelante.
Por ahora, les puedo decir que siempre me he dedicado a mejorar la calidad de vida en Doral, y continuaré esforzándome para asegurar que siga siendo un excelente lugar para vivir, trabajar, aprender, jugar y constituir familias para las presentes y futuras generaciones. También estoy segura de que si trabajamos juntos, nadie será capaz de impedir que forjemos un futuro brillante y audaz para nuestra ciudad.
