New oral self-swab COVID-19 test site opened on July 27 in the county
DORAL, FL – A new oral self-swab COVID-19 test site opened this Monday at Tropical Park. It will test up to 1,100 people per day while at their cars.
“The test will be self-administered with an oral swab so people can remain safe in their cars. It’s an easy swab you can do in your mouth,” explained Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, as reported by CBS Miami.
Testing will be free but each person in every vehicle must request an appointment online first in order to be tested. Results will be shared by email within 72 hours after getting tested.
The state run oral self-swab COVID-19 test site will be opened seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. including weekends, to anyone age five and older, regardless of their symptoms.
During the opening of the new testing site, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced COVID-19 testing capacity in the county will be double by the end of the week aiming at testing up to 1,100 people per day.
It was also known that county leaders are considering making tests available during evenings hours so that workers that are unable to get tested during the day, can do so.
According to the Mayor, the county is beginning to experience an improvement in the positive cases rate and in hospitalizations but there’s still a lot of work to do to continue decreasing the positive cases rates which currently is of around 20 percent.
The announcement comes after the opening of five testing sites in South Florida last week, two of which are located in Miami-Dade County at Miami Jackson High School and Miami-Dade Auditorium.
Tropical Park is located at 900 SW 40 Street in Miami. Enter on Bird Road (SW 40 Street).
