Parental education should begin the moment we decide to have a child, as is it then that all individuals involved start the journey of self-discovery, and begin to become more aware of their relationships to each other.

An education is the main asset, if not the only one, parents can inherit to their children. It is part of the American Dream for immigrants who have worked hard to obtain their legal status in this country. However, the college education dream can be elusive for those without the funds to cover it and those who do not get informed of the many alternatives available to receive financial aid for education. Filling out FAFSA is the first step to being eligible to qualify for many of those financial assistance programs.

Mistakes are not a sign of failure but rather a chance to learn.

Born 2 Learn is one of the oldest childcare programs in Doral. There is no doubt that this is the place where I would leave my children all day long. Cristina Espinel and Llinka Palacio, the creators of the program, are two wonderful mothers who have worked from dawn to dusk during this time to make this preschool the exceptional place it has become.

They have a need, a clear need to solve a problem or to start an exploration to create something, but expect a closely guided activity. This is an ever growing phenomenon that has taken me to research how to teach children initiative and perseverance.

Miguel Mejia, of Ronald W. Reagan Doral High School, and Silvana Crespo-Narvaez, of Divine Savior Academy, are two students from our city of Doral that have managed to be on the list of Florida’s 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, and to whom we must give them our full support.

WalkSafe, a recognized program lead by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will be conducted in Eugenia B. Thomas Elementary School (EBT) early October, 2013.

Mr. Silva shares here with the community his background, first impressions, goals, expectations and commitment to continue leading Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High School in the path of success.
