This past month the three K-8 centers of Doral nominated their Teacher of the Year (TOY). All three teachers nominated truly inspire their students and make a difference in our schools.

This award is a very important recognition that State Farm gives to outstanding programs that “promote experiential learning and give students an opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real problem-solving involvement in their communities with an impact in their achievement and civic responsibility.”

On a windy and wet morning last October 25th, Officials Travieso, Garciga, Cubela and Feliciano visited the Child Development Center at the U.S. Southern Command Headquarters in Doral with the purpose of teaching the pre-school age children about their jobs, what kind of equipment they use, and basic safety rules.

This conference is part of the “Information and Prevention Program” that the school administration has decided to carry along with the Police Department, in order to provide students and parents effective resources for preventing drug use.

The SAT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. The SAT, pronounced “S-A-T”, is an acronym for Scholastic Assessment Test. Due to differences in funding, curriculum, and grading among U.S. high schools, the SAT was created in 1926 to fairly assess students’ readiness for college on a national level.

In September more than 50 Doral residents visited the explored the art work of Lydia Azout at the FROST Art Museum in FIU´s West Campus. Not only did they meet the artist and interact with her work, but the museum also offered refreshments and a hands on activity. The artist even allowed children to climb and sit on the sculptures!

The child is constructing who and how he is. His drawings will also change depending on how he feels and the experiences he is going through.
