Section 8 to open applications for affordable housing on February 5
DORAL, FL – Starting February 5, 2024, the Section 8 program for subsidized rent will open the application process for those who want to join a waiting list.
The federal program will allow county residents in need to present their applications until February 19 with the purpose of giving them a chance to receive vouchers or coupons to live in a rental property that participates in this program.
To be eligible, applicants must have limited resources and be over 18 years old. Homeless, victims of natural disasters and veterans will be prioritized.
For an individual, the annual income must not exceed $36,150; two people, $41,300; three people, $46,450; four, $51,600; five, $55,750, six, $59,900; seven, $64,000 and eight, $68,150. It should be noted that paper applications will not be accepted this year, and only 5,000 will be selected randomly to enter Section 8 waiting list.
In addition, only one application per household will be permitted. Those who submit more than one will be disqualified for consideration.
Families that lack an Internet connection and/or a computer, smart phone or tablet, can call 311 for assistance or visit county libraries and community centers that will offer help filling out the application starting February 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. People with disabilities can receive help completing the application by calling (786) 654-8440.
The libraries that can help are: Main Library, Downtown (101 West Flagler Street); North Dade Regional Library (2455 NW 183 Street, Miami Gardens); Westchester Regional Library (9445 Coral Way); South Dade Regional Library (10750 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay); and Miami Beach Regional Library (227 22nd Street, Miami Beach).
Once the application is submitted, participants will receive a confirmation number to let them know the process is complete. After February 19 and for an extension of two to three weeks, a random selection will be carried out.
