DORAL, FL –  As we begin to prepare for the next school year, planning meetings are underway for the Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) of the School Board for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). With plans already in place and in motion for the opening of two new schools in the City of Doral, school boundary changes will begin with the recommendations for John I. Smith K-8 Center and Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center.

Susie V. Castillo, Miami Dade School Board Member representing District 5

Beginning in January 2020, the District will hold community meetings where parents, students, PTA members, community stakeholders, and the like will be invited to be a part of this process by providing input, feedback, and recommendations to the ABC proposals. Furthermore, there will be several opportunities to participate in this process.

“In order to provide the most well-thought out plans for our students, parents and the Doral community, the ABC process is open and participation at the upcoming community meetings is encouraged. Keeping our parents and the community well-informed and involved will not only help yield better results in the classroom but positively impact the overall well-being of all Doral families,” stated Susie V. Castillo, Miami Dade School Board Member representing District 5.

Due to the expected increase in the population of the City of Doral, schools will continue being monitored and considered within the ABC process for the next few years. The goal is to provide an optimal learning environment where every student continues to have the opportunity to thrive. The community is being made aware of this process because participation is important to ensure all needs and expectations are met.

Please be on the lookout for the meeting dates as they will be announced by Principals and posted on social media.

Should you have additional questions about the ABC process, its impact on Doral schools or the meeting dates, please email Ms. Castillo’s office district5@dadeschools.net.
