Donald Trump was indicted, first time in history such a case occurs
DORAL, FL – Donald Trump was indicted formally on federal charges for mishandling classified government documents that were discovered at his Mar-A-Lago mansion, this is the first time in history a former U.S. president faces a federal indictment by the Justice Department.
He now will have to appear at the federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday June 13th and U.S. Secret Service officials will meet Friday with Trump’s staff, security officers and Secret Service assigned to the former president’s detail to carry out a plan for his travel and appearance in federal court, according to a report by CBS News where it says a law enforcement official confirmed this piece of information.
“I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024 Presidential Election. I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!” he claimed.
The former president, who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, has been charged with seven counts stemming from retaining national defense information, conspiracy and obstruction, as confirmed by three sources familiar with the case.
According to the AP, the fact that Donald Trump was indicted implies the possibility of prison if he is convicted although the Justice Department did not immediately confirm the indictment publicly. It was Trump himself who made the announcement on his Truth Social platform where he denied any wrongdoing.
About the case, that stems from a 15-month-long effort by the federal government to retrieve records the former president had at his Mar-A-Lago property after his presidency ended in January 2021, Trump said he declassified the sensitive documents and that the materials he kept were “personal” and, therefore, didn’t have to be turned over to the National Archives and Records Administration when he left office, and were shielded by executive privilege.
In addition to the seven charges, Donald Trump has also been indicted in New York and faces additional investigations in Washington and Atlanta that could also lead to criminal charges.
