The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum is proud to present the pieces created by the children of Doral for the “For the Love of Art, Recycle…” contest at the Cultural Center at City Hall!

With more than 20 years of experience in art and education, Sara Alfaro, Executive Art Director of The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum came up with the dream of motivating children to create art with discarded materials, in an effort to teach them that our environment requires all of our respect and care.

Found Objects or objet trouvé, as known from their original name in French, describe art created from undisguised, but often modified objects.  Found Objects have been around for a long time, with artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol among others.

Due to her vast experience and having being a recipient of several prizes throughout the years from The Education Fund for The Art of Found Objects exhibit, together with several of her students, it was just clear that the next step was to create a citywide contest for children to create art with recyclable materials.

“For the Love of Art…Recycle”, is a contest sponsored by the City of Doral and created through The Artist Portfolio’s Mission. The award ceremony will celebrate all city of Doral youth ranging from 5 to 18 years of age, from all schools both public and private, at the City of Doral’s Cultural Center located on the first floor of City Hall. These incredible creations are going to be on display during one week in order to allow all the residents of Doral to enjoy the wonderful pieces created by children and in some cases created in a family team effort.

January 24^th, 2013 at 6:00pm winners will be announce in the closing of the exhibit.

For this contest, The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum worked in collaboration with the City of Doral’s Environmental and Cultural Affairs Advisory Boards, Rethink and Reuse Center and the Doral Business Council.  We are a city that thrives on creative education. Our future depends on programs that educate and stimulate non-traditional methods in creation and environment education through the visual arts. We are honored to have counted with the support of these organizations.

Our Mission at The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum is to nurture self-expression and exploration of cross curriculum through the visual arts. We enable our students to conceptualize ideas in many ways. We believe that art education exposes our students to so many facets of their lives, from historical connections of where they originated from, motor skills and sequencing to confidence building, career and other life experiences, students will develop the skills that will enhance and enrich their expertise in all subject areas.

Art created by our students is present through Art Exhibits around Miami Dade. These pieces are showcased at different venues from Banks, Restaurants and Corporate Offices. 

We are currently exhibiting at the Denny’s family of restaurants, three so far and expanding!  In the past month of December Chick-Fil-A celebrated our student’s art with an exhibit like past years as well as other Doral Corporations. Thank you for supporting our children.

Artistic expression and creativity are key motivators of our young students’ academic success; for this reason we also offer specialized courses like ROBOTICS.  Introduction to Robotics opens the door to understanding programming, systems control and processes. This knowledge enhances the student’s creativity, social skills, logical thinking and the discipline required to move forward step by step in a fast pace world. 

Robotics is designed for future engineers and scientists. Students work in small teams and build a variety of robot projects using LEGO Mindstorms. This course provides an early opportunity to study different principles of physics and science and basic concepts of engineering, such as motorized machines, levers, gears, pulleys, speed/torque, and more.  The course is broken down into 8- week progressive sessions.

La motivación de crear Arte con materiales reciclables.

The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum se honra en presentar las obras creadas por los niños de la Ciudad de Doral para el concurso “For the Love of Art, Recycle…”, en el Centro Cultural del Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad.

Con más de 20 años de experiencia en arte y educación, Sara Alfaro, Directora Ejecutiva de Arte de “The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum” tuvo el sueño de motivar a la niñez a crear arte con materiales desechados, en un esfuerzo de enseñarles que nuestro medio ambiente requiere de nuestro respeto y cuidado.

Los “Objetos Encontrados” (found objects o objet trouve), como se conocen originalmente por su nombre en Frances, describen arte creado a partir de objetos en su estado normal pero generalmente modificados. Los “Objetos Encontrados” han estado a nuestro alrededor por mucho tiempo, con artistas como Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali y Andy Warhol entre otros.

Dada su vasta experiencia y habiendo recibido varios premios, junto con sus estudiantes, a tráves de los años de manos de “The Education Fund” por la exhibicion The Art of Found Objects, el siguiente paso era claro: Crear un concurso a nível de ciudad para la niñez, en donde pudieran crear arte a partir de materiales de reciclado.

“For the Love of Art, Recycle…” es un concurso que ha sido patrocinado por la Ciudad de Doral y creado a tráves de la misión de The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum. La ceremonia de premiación rendirá homenaje a la niñez de la ciudad de Doral, entre las edades de 5 a 18 años, de todas las escuelas públicas y privadas. Esta premiación tendrá lugar en el Centro Cultural de la Ciudad de Doral, localizado en el primer piso del edificio del Ayuntamiento. Todos los trabajos presentados se exhibirán durante una semana con el fin de permitir a todos los residentes de la ciudad admirar las maravillas que nuestra niñez creo.

Los ganadores del concurso se anunciarán el Jueves 24 de Enero de 2013 a las 6:00 pm en la ceremonia de clausura.

Para este concurso, The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum trabajo en colaboración con los Comités del Medio Ambiente y Cultura de la Ciudad de Doral, con ReThink and ReUse Center y con el Doral Business Council.   Doral es una ciudad que se distingue por la educación creativa. Nuestro futuro depende de programas que educan y estimulan a tráves de métodos no tradicionales la educación sobre el  medio ambiente a tráves de las artes visuales. Nos sentimos honrados de contar con el apoyo de estas organizaciones.

La misión de The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum es la de nutrir la expresión personal y la exploración de diferentes curriculums a tráves de las artes visuales. Habilitamos a nuestros estudiantes para que sean capaces de conceptualizar sus ideas de distintas maneras. Creemos que la educación en el arte le permite a los estudiantes explorar distintas facetas de sus vidas, desde hacer conexiones acerca de sus orígenes, mejorar sus capacidades motoras, acrecentar su confianza en sí mismos, aprender sobre sus futuras carreras y muchas otras experiencias sobre su vida. Los estudiantes desarrollan las capacidades que les permitiran acrecentar y enriquecer su experiencia en todas las areas de estudio.

El arte que nuestros estudiantes han creado se ha exhibido alrededor del Condado de Miami Dade. Estas piezas han estado en exhibición en diferentes lugares como bancos, restaurants y oficinas corporativas. Actualmente se esta exhibiendo en los restaurants Denny’s;  Y se han exhibido en Chick-fil-A y oficinas corporativas de la ciudad.

La expresión artistica y la creatividad son motivadores fundamentales para el éxito académico de los estudiantes, por esta razón tambien ofrecemos cursos especializados como ROBOTICA. La introducción a la Robotica abre las puertas a la comprensión sobre programación, control de sistemas y procesos. Este conocimiento habilita la creatividad del estudiante, sus capacidades sociales, el pensamiento lógico y la disciplina necesarios para seguir creciendo en un mundo altamente tecnificado.

El curso de Robotica esta diseñado para los futuros ingenieros y cientificos. Los estudiantes trabajan en equipos reducidos y construyen una variedad de robots utilizando LEGO Mindstorms. Este curso provee una oportunidad temprana para estudiar los principios de física,  ciencia y conceptos básicos de ingenieria como máquinas motorizadas, palancas, engranes, poleas, torques y mucho más. Este curso esta dividido en ocho sesiones progresivas.
