DREAMERS’ MOMS: Giving a voice to illegal immigrants.
Will hold an informational workshop in Doral

On Thursday March 6th the organization DREAMERS’ MOMS will hold an informational workshop about several issues that impact the population without a legal immigration status. The agenda includes: benefits that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) provides to students without legal immigration status and how to apply; basic rights for illegal immigrants; community actions needed for achieving the implementation of a drivers’ license for illegal immigrants in Florida and for urging legislators the support for a comprehensive reform of immigration laws.
This workshop will take place at the Doral Conservatory School of the Arts, located at 2900 NW 109 Avenue in Doral, Florida, at 7 pm.
The founder and President of the DREAMERS’ MOMS organization, Mrs. Alejandra Saucedo explained the objective of their movement, their achievements since their started working almost two years ago and invited the community to attend this workshop:
“We started our organization when the ‘Dreamers’ movement started all over the country. We got together when President Obama announced the DACA and started holding workshops with immigration lawyers at University of Miami, Miami-Dade College and in Broward too.”
“Along with me there were other mothers that explained those in attendance to the workshops that the DACA is not a permanent solution and that it does not cover the parents. It helps students; it is not a solution for their legal status but a temporary permit for 2 years. We encourage parents and students to advocate together for a comprehensive immigration reform; that is why we founded DREAMERS’ MOMS.”
The organization has more than 200 members in South Florida and many chapters around the country. They have helped illegal immigrants without criminal records to avoid deportation through helping them gain access to pro bono legal counseling; they have approached legislators to create awareness of the need of a comprehensive immigration reform and also have participated in demonstrations at detention centers to advocate for illegal immigrants human rights. “They have rights that when they know them they can avoid deportation” explains Mrs. Saucedo.
A highlight of the event that will take place on March 6th is the presence through video conference of Mr. Diego Sanchez, the student ‘Dreamer’ that was invited by President Obama in 2013. Sanchez has been benefited by the DACA and currently works in Washington DC advocating for a comprehensive immigration reform. During the workshop he will explain to those in attendance the politics of advocating for a permanent solution for illegal immigrants.

DREAMERS’ MOMS: Una voz para los inmigrantes ilegales
Taller informativo tendrá lugar en Doral

La organización DREAMERS’ MOMS realizará el próximo jueves 6 de Marzo un taller informativo sobre los diferentes aspectos que afectan a la población que se encuentra en estatus de ilegalidad.
La agenda incluye: beneficios del DACA (Acción Diferida para quienes llegaron en la Infancia, por sus siglas en inglés) para estudiantes ilegales y como aplicar; derechos básicos de los inmigrantes ilegales; acciones comunitarias para solicitar la creación de una licencia de conducir para inmigrantes ilegales en Florida y lo más importante, cómo solicitar a los legisladores su apoyo para una Reforma Migratoria completa.
El taller tendrá lugar en el Doral Conservatory School of the Arts, ubicado en 2900 NW 109 Avenida en Doral, Florida.
La Sra. Alejandra Saucedo, fundadora y Presidente de DREAMERS’ MOMS explicó los objetivos de la organización y sus logros desde que comenzaron a trabajar hace casi 2 años, e invitó a la comunidad a participar en el taller.
“Nuestra organización nació a causa de las luchas que hicieron los ‘Dreamers’ alrededor del país. Nos unimos cuando el Presidente Obama anuncio DACA para ayudar a los que luchaban por los derechos de los estudiantes indocumentados alrededor del país. Comenzaron las charlas, las clínicas gratis, jornadas gratis de Acción Diferida por abogados de inmigración en UM, en MDC y en Broward también.”
“Las mamás empezaron junto conmigo a hablar con los padres que asistían a esas jornadas a decirles que esta no es una acción permanente ni tampoco cubría a los padres. Estaban dando un alivio a los estudiantes pero no es un status legal sino que es un permiso temporal por 2 años. Nosotros lo que abogábamos para que los estudiantes y los padres salieran a luchar juntos por una reforma migratoria. Así nació DREAMERS’ MOMS.”
Con más de 200 miembros en el Sur de Florida y muchos grupos alrededor del país, han logrado ayudar a inmigrantes ilegales sin record criminal a evitar la deportación; también trabajan en crear conciencia sobre la necesidad de una completa reforma migratoria, hacen protestas y demostraciones en los centros de detención y luchan por los derechos de los inmigrantes. “Ellos tienen derechos y cuando los conocen pueden evitar una deportación” explica Saucedo.
Durante el evento del 6 de Marzo se espera la presencia vía teleconferencia de Diego Sánchez, el estudiante ‘Dreamer’ invitado por el Presidente Obama en su alocución sobre la necesidad de una reforma migratoria en 2013. Sánchez es beneficiario de DACA y actualmente trabaja activamente en Washington DC para una reforma migratoria completa. Durante el taller explicará los aspectos políticos y estrategias necesarias para luchar por ese objetivo.
