Shelton Academy After-School Program Begins Operation

The educational philosophy of Shelton Academy reaches out to the entire community, with the start of operations of Shelton Academy After-School Program, open to the participation for current Shelton students as well as all residents of Doral and surrounding cities.
Like a strong tree, destined to produce fruits of exploration and experience, Shelton Academy After School brings together in one location a highly qualified group of instructors and programs representing the various branches of sports and the arts.
Ms. Georgina Pratt, founder of Shelton, said that they feel honored and proud to offer programs led by teachers with excellent quality and experience, ensuring that children who participate “will learn the proper way and reach their potential. Educating children is not only completing an academic curriculum but preparing them in every way possible to be healthy and ready to succeed on whatever challenge they have to face in life.”
Shelton Academy After School Program provides participants with the best learning experience, within a facility that has ‘state-of-the-art’ environment and necessary equipment for each of the activities offered; the program runs in the Shelton Academy building located in Doral, Florida.
Shelton After School Program serves two groups of students:
1 – Students enrolled in Shelton Academy After School Care: includes homework help and participation in extracurricular activities Monday through Friday. For children who are not students of Shelton Academy, there is the possibility (with limited availability) to be enrolled in this program. In this case, transportation of the student from his school to Shelton should be done through a private pick up service chosen by the parents. Sheldon does not provide transportation.
2 – Students from the community: children enrolled in other schools register individually on the different programs/academies available. They attend the classes at the times chosen. In these cases, parents are responsible for bringing the child on time for the lesson, handing them to the instructor and pick them at the end of the lesson/activity.
Shelton After School Program Coordinator, Ms. Maritza Ballarales states: “I am happy and excited to coordinate a program with a group of highly professional instructors, integrated and focused on developing children as whole individuals by nurturing their creativity; This program will provide alternatives for children to choose and develop disciplines that will help them to learn and grow.”
Services and Academies that have partnered with Shelton After School Program to create this academic team reflect the multicultural and multidisciplinary educational philosophy that identifies Shelton Academy. The activities offered are:
Action Kids Film: instructor Dorian Alfonso offers an innovative program where children learn the art of film making, using cameras and screenwriting.
Grupo de Teatro Girasol: led by Ibetti Perez Larralde from Cuba, with extensive experience as a director and writer of plays for children.
Private piano lessons: with Rita Rosa Ruesga, Grammy-nominated for his children’s music CD and music book writer.
Carlos Tirado Art: Children with artistic skills can learn and develop advanced techniques of painting, sculpture and photography guided by Venezuelan artist Carlos Tirado
Doral Sports Academy: Judo and Fencing, Olympic sports, under the guidance of instructors certified by USA Judo (Dr. Renan Leyva Infante) and USA Fencing (Meylin Quintana and Raul Perojo). Zumba classes are also offered.
Karate by Junko: Martial Arts with Costa Rican Sensei Alex Junco, black belt.
CB Music Lab: a satellite center of CB Music Lab. Ms. Cristina Belisario offers her successful and proven system for musical exploration that allows children to develop their full performance potential.
The Etiquette Academy: Claudia Ahrens-Hernandez, Etiquette Certified Consultant, brings her program of social protocol to develop children’s confidence and leadership skills.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church: part of the parish’s CCD program that runs on Sundays, this program is offered for children that are on the waiting list to start their religious education. Endorsed and approved by the Archdiocese of Miami.
Powertumble Gymnastics: recreational and sport gymnastics, ‘tumbling’ and cheerleading; Coordinated by Gloria Ortiz.
Pisces Swim Academy: Fanny Pedrique, Patricia Gonzalez Venezuelan instructors with a long history of participating in international competitions, offer swimming lessons from children to adults, waterpolo, acquaerobics, etc. Classes begin in the coming months, once the permanent pool construction is completed.
Eco sensorial Discovery / Yoga: Luisa Fernanda Casas-Buenas introduces children to the benefits of yoga postures for flexibility, concentration and focus.
JM Dance Academy: Jenifer Munives Cuban dancer offers ballet and Hip Hop classes.
Tennis: instructor Lizetti Cabrera provides a structured program for learning the sport.
Shelton After School Program begins at Shelton Academy on Monday August 27, 2012. Registration for all activities is held in the office of Shelton After School, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, except for Doral Academy Sports and Piscis Swim Academy, whose schedules are extended after regular hours. Inicio de Operaciones de Shelton Academy After-School Program

La filosofía educativa de Shelton Academy amplía su alcance y lo coloca a disposición de toda la comunidad, con el inicio de operaciones de su programa Shelton Academy After School, abierto para la participación no solo de sus estudiantes sino de todos los residentes de Doral y sus alrededores.
Como un fuerte árbol, orientado a producir frutos de exploración y experiencia, Shelton Academy After School aglutina en una sola localidad un grupo altamente calificado de instructores y academias representativas de las distintas ramas del deporte y las artes.
La Sra. Georgina Pratt, fundadora de Shelton, manifiesta que se sienten honrados y orgullosos de poder ofrecer programas dirigidos por profesores de tan excelente calidad y trayectoria, lo cual garantiza que los niños que participen “van a aprender de la manera debida y a alcanzar su máximo potencial. Educar a los niños no es solamente cubrir el currículo académico sino prepararlos en todo sentido, para que sean personas saludables y listas para afrontar lo que les traiga la vida”.
Shelton Academy After School Program brinda a los participantes la mejor experiencia de aprendizaje, dentro de un local que cuenta con instalaciones ‘state-of-the-art’, acondicionadas específicamente para cada una de las actividades ofrecidas: el edificio de Shelton Academy ubicado en Doral, Florida.
El programa Shelton After School sirve dos grupos de alumnos:
1- Estudiantes de Shelton Academy inscritos en After School Care: incluye ayuda de tareas y participación en actividades extracurriculares de lunes a viernes. Para los niños que no son estudiantes de Shelton, hay la posibilidad (con cupo limitado) de inscribirlos en este programa diario. En este caso el traslado del estudiante desde su escuela hasta Shelton debe ser realizado a través de un servicio de transporte escolar que los padres seleccionen.
2- Estudiantes de la comunidad: niños inscritos individualmente en las academias disponibles en el programa. Asisten a las clases y horarios escogidos. No están inscritos en el After School Program sino solamente en la academia correspondiente. En estos casos, los padres son los responsables de dejar al niño en manos del instructor y recogerlos al terminar.
La coordinadora de Shelton After School Program, Sra. Maritza Ballarales expresa: “estoy contenta y emocionada por coordinar un programa con un grupo de instructores muy profesional, integrado y enfocado en los niños, quienes son los protagonistas y lideres de su propia creatividad y con este programa les proporcionamos las alternativas para que ellos escojan y se desarrollen en las disciplinas que ellos decidan para aprender y crecer.”
Las academias y servicios que forman el equipo del Programa Shelton After School reflejan la naturaleza multicultural y multidisciplinaria, base de la filosofía educativa Shelton. Las diferentes actividades disponibles son:

Clases privadas de piano: con Rita Rosa Ruesga, nominada al Grammy por su CD de música infantil y escritora de libros de música.
Carlos Tirado Art: Los niños con aptitudes artísticas podrán aprender y desarrollar técnicas avanzadas de pintura, escultura y fotografía de la mano del Artista venezolano Carlos Tirado
Doral Sports Academy: Judo y Esgrima, deportes olímpicos, bajo la guía de instructores certificados por USA Judo (Dr. Renán Leyva Infante) y USA Esgrima (Meylin Quintana y Raul Perojo. También ofrecen clases de Zumba.
Karate by Junko: Artes marciales con el Sensei Alex Junco cinta negra costarricense
CB Music Lab: es un satélite del centro CB Music Lab. La profesora Cristina Belisario con su exitoso y comprobado sistema de exploración musical permitirá a los niños desarrollar su máximo potencial interpretativo.
The Etiquette Academy: Claudia Ahrens-Hernandez, Consultor Certificado de Etiqueta, trae su programa de protocolo social que permite a los niños desarrollar sus habilidades de confianza y liderazgo.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church: grupo adicional al programa regular dominical, para instrucción de catecismo a los niños de la parroquia que están en lista de espera. Avalado y aprobado por la Arquidiócesis de Miami.
Powertumble Gymnastics: Gimnasia recreacional y deportiva, ‘tumbling’ y cheerleading. Coordinado por Gloria Ortiz.
Piscis Swim Academy: Fanny Pedrique, Patricia Gonzalez instructoras venezolanas con una larga trayectoria de participación en competencias internacionales, ofrecen clases de natación desde niños hasta adultos, waterpolo, acquaerobics, competencias, etc. Las clases iniciarán en los próximos meses, una vez que se culmine la construcción de la piscina permanente
Taller Ecosensorial /Yoga: Luisa Fernanda Casas-Buenas introducirá a los niños en los beneficios de las posturas de yoga para obtener flexibilidad, concentración y enfoque.
JM Dance Academy: Jenifer Munives bailarina cubana, ofrece clases de ballet y Hip Hop
Tennis: la instructora Lizetti Cabrera ofrece un programa estructurado para el aprendizaje del deporte.
El programa Shelton Academy After School comienza a partir del lunes 27 de agosto, 2012. Las inscripciones en todas las academias se realizan en la oficina de Shelton After School, a excepción de Doral Sports Academy y Piscis Swim Academy, cuyos horarios se extienden fuera del horario regular de 3:00 pm hasta las 6:0 0 pm.
