On March 18th, 2014, Ronald Regan High School students Gabriel and Daniel Vasquez received the Christi Fraga Youth Leadership Award at the City of Doral Government Center. Councilwoman Christi Fraga created the award to reward students for their leadership and service to the Doral community. The award included an IPAD and a Tablet prize for the twins, which were sponsored respectively by 1First Bank and the Casimiro Global Foundation. The Vasquez twins were nominated by Casimiro Global Foundation President Juan Casimiro and by St. Brendan Catholic Church Music Director Maria Perez-Rudisill. Vice Mayor Sandra Ruiz, Public Affairs Coordinator Maggie Santos, and 1First Bank Vice President/Branch Manager Iliana Carbajal served on the committee that conducted the nomination review process. Councilwoman Fraga stated:
“The Vazquez twins were selected to receive the award given their dedication to their studies, their leadership qualities, and their originality, as well as for how their commitments have improved the quality of life of the elderly within the Doral community. Gabriel and Daniel regularly share their musical talent by playing for the elderly at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult day cares, thus brightening the lives of senior citizens in the City of Doral as well as throughout Miami Dade County. They also collect books and magazines and donate these items to non-profit organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA of Greater Miami, Girls Power Rocks, and the Ronald McDonald House. It is their leadership in developing and committing to these projects and their service to others that I hope to recognize with this award. ”
