MDC’s 41st Miami Book Fair Announces Star-Studded Evenings With Programs
Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Book Fair, Nov. 17 – 24, announced its highly anticipated Evenings With program, which will feature acclaimed authors, journalists and cultural icons, including journalist Connie Chung, National Book Award winner Alice McDermott, broadcaster Don Lemon, novelist Amy Tan, Israeli journalist and Oct. 7 massacre survivor Amir Tibon and CNN’s chief international correspondent and conflict zone specialist Clarissa Ward, among others.
The Miami Book Fair will take place at MDC Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. 2nd Ave. Most evening author events require a ticket. For tickets, to become a Friend of the Fair or for more information, visit www.miamibookfair.com.

An Evening with Don Lemon
Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. | MDC Wolfson Campus | Tickets $35 (includes book and access to Street Fair)
Renowned broadcast commentator Don Lemon discusses his new book “I Once Was Lost: My Search for God in America.” Lemon explores his complex relationship with faith and his journey to find grace amidst personal and professional upheaval.
An Evening with Amir Tibon

Veteran journalist for Israel-based international news outlet, Haaretz, Amir Tibon presents his harrowing memoir “The Gates of Gaza: A Story of Betrayal, Survival, and Hope in Israel’s Borderlands.” Tibon recounts his family’s terrifying ordeal during the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack on their kibbutz near Gaza, interweaving personal experience with historical context of conflict in the region.
An Evening with Alice McDermott

Award-winning author Alice McDermott, one of the most important and lauded storytellers of our time, presents “Absolution,” a novel which offers a fresh perspective on the Vietnam War through the eyes of American women in 1963 Saigon. McDermott examines the unintended consequences of America’s involvement in Southeast Asia through the lens of women’s experiences.

Bestselling nonfiction author Erik Larson discusses “The Demon of Unrest: A Saga of Hubris, Heartbreak, and Heroism at the Dawn of the Civil War.” Larson provides a gripping account of the tumultuous months between Lincoln’s election and the start of the Civil War, drawing on diaries, secret communiques, and other historical records.

Journalist Sarah Smarsh presents “Bone of the Bone: Essays on America by a Daughter of the Working Class,” a collection of more than 30 essays that explore various social and political issues facing America today.

Trailblazing journalist Connie Chung discusses her memoir “Connie: A Memoir” with her husband, TV personality Maury Povich. Chung shares behind-the-scenes stories from her groundbreaking career, including her experiences as the first Asian American to anchor a national news program.
An Evening with Amy Tan

Bestselling author Amy Tan presents “The Backyard Bird Chronicles,” a unique memoir that chronicles her journey into birdwatching as a means of finding solace and connection to nature during turbulent times. This special book, features Tan’s full-color drawings of the various bird species in her backyard and beyond.
