Miami-Dade Schools begin virtual Week of Welcome on August 24

DORAL, FL – Beginning August 24, Miami-Dade County Public Schools begin virtual Week of Welcome. It consists of a series of modules available for students and parents to watch every day in order to prepare for the new school year.

On the week between August 24 and 28, families will be presented with the routines and practices of My School Online, MSO, that will start on August 31.

Sessions will cover almost 60 subjects and will be available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole at http://miamiweekofwelcome.com

Each day of the Week of Welcome, additional videos will be available at the website. Modules that are of critical importance for the student’s immersion in the new school year will be labeled as “Must Watch”.

Selected programming will also air on channel 17 WLRN-TV. Many of the “Must Watch” videos will be featured each day of the week, as well as special programming for students in Exceptional Student Education and PreKindergarten (PreK) programs.

Topics, ranging from cybersecurity and coping with stress to study habits and nutrition, are organized into four main categories:

  • Virtual connection: Includes information regarding distance learning, devices and connectivity, and navigation through the portal for parents and students.
  • Supporting Student Success: Includes a series of modules designed to help families set up schedules and routines to optimize learning and develop strong study habits. It includes modules that support  special need students, such as students with disabilities, English learners, and students in PreK and Kindergarten.

  • Healthy Mind and Body: Covers topics related to mental health, mindfulness, and nutrition, all of which are critical given the high level of stress and anxiety that many students and families are experiencing during this crisis.

  • Your Child on Campus: This is a series of modules that will provide students and parents with information on what they can expect to see and experience in physical school once M-DCPS enters the reopening Stage II.

In addition to the materials that will be available for the Week of Welcome, families can also make use of a wide range of resources on the M-DCPS School Reopening website.

Also, parents can have a broader understanding to better help their children with fluency and mastery of technology through the Parent Academy that provides ongoing training and support. On-demand webinars will be offered in multiple languages ??at parentacademymiami.com/virtual-campus/.

Families with pending questions or doubts about the back to school process in this new normality, will be able to tune in to Superintendent Alberto Carvalho’s Parent Webinar on Tuesday, August 25, at 5:30 p.m. They can also call to 305-995-3000 for additional information.
