Understanding the General Elections Ballot
Early voting starts October 24th

The ballot for the General Elections this year is comprised of four pages, a situation that can be somehow confusing to many new voters or even for the seasoned ones, because beyond choosing the President, Vice President and local authorities, Doral electors will have to vote for: Senators and Representatives to the US and State Congress; Miami-Dade County Mayor and Clerk of the Circuit Court; Circuit Judges; Retention of State Supreme Court Judges; Retention of Judge of the Court of Appeals and the adoption of five amendments to the State Constitution and two to the County Charter.
Partisan and nonpartisan voters in Doral will receive similar ballots, as the party affiliation was relevant only for the primary elections back in August, when registered Republicans or Democrats voted to select the candidates of their parties for the General Election in addition to expressing their opinion on general issues. Everybody is expected to approach the precincts on this election.
Early voting begins October 24th
Let’s clarify a few doubts that first-time voters in the US have: Once registered to vote, a person does not have to fill the registration form again, unless there has been a change of address or party affiliation. Only born or naturalized American Citizens can vote. Permanent Residents or any other immigrants are not allowed to vote.
Voting is one of the main benefits of going through a legal immigration process to obtain American Citizenship, and is a right that has to be exercised responsibly. That is why becoming an informed elector is fundamental.
There are three ways to vote in the United States: by mail through absentee ballot; early voting in person at designated centers or showing up to your designated precincts on General Election Day November 8th.
Absentee ballots can be requested online, by phone, email, fax or letter through the Miami-Dade Elections Department. The deadline to request one is November 2nd and should be mailed back before Election Day November 8th. They are excellent option for people who have difficulty to show up in person, such as seniors or people with limited mobility, students at colleges far from their voting circuit, frequent travelers, etc.
Early voting begins October 24th until November 6th, and the Miami-Dade Elections Department has confirmed centers will be open from 7am to 7pm. Doral residents are lucky enough to have the Elections Department right in our neighborhood, next door to Doral Central Park on 87th Avenue. On Election Day, the location of your precinct can be found on your Voters Registration Card that you should have received by mail upon registration or change of address. There are 11 precincts in the City of Doral, most of them at the public schools in the area and other main locations. Public Offices and Amendments: What are the choices for Doral residents?
Besides voting on the three positions for the City of Doral Council that have been discussed on previous editions, Doral residents will have to make decisions on officials and amendments. A brief description of the choices available is explained on the comparison tables that accompany this article.

It is very important to emphasize to those voting for the first time in the US that on the General Election it does not matter if they do not like the candidate of the party they belong to, as this time the choices are open and they can still vote for the candidate from the other party. The vote is secret; nobody will know you did not vote Republican, or Democrat, or Libertarian. The important point is making the choices that on your perspective will be more beneficial for the Country, the State and your municipality regardless of your political affiliation.
This is the most important election ever. The United States is a Great, beautiful Country, full of opportunities for its citizens and for those who come here in the pursuit of happiness. It is the responsibility of those of us, entitled to vote by our constitutional right as citizens of this great land, to approach the precincts and express our opinion, to help it continue being the land of the free, home of the brave, respectful, diverse and generous people it has always been.

Analisis de la Boleta Electoral 2016

La boleta de las Elecciones Generales de este año tiene cuatro páginas, algo que puede ser confuso tanto para nuevos votantes como para muchos habituados a ejercer su derecho. Además de elegir Presidente, Vicepresidente y Autoridades Locales, los votantes en Doral tendrán que seleccionar: Senadores y Representantes Federales y Estatales; Alcalde y Secretario del Condado Miami-Dade y Jueces de Circuito. También expresarán su opinión sobre la retención de Jueces de la Corte Suprema Estatal, Corte de Apelaciones, cinco enmiendas a la Constitución Estatal y dos enmiendas a la constitución del Condado.
En Doral la boleta general es similar independiente de la afiliación política del votante, a diferencia de las elecciones de Agosto, cuando cada partido eligió sus candidatos, además de votar por algunos asuntos de interés general.
En esta elección todos deben participar. Es un deber y un derecho.
Votación adelantada comienza el 24 de Octubre
Primero que nada aclaremos algunas dudas para quienes votan por primera vez en EEUU: Una vez registrado como elector, los votantes no tienen que hacerlo nuevamente a menos que hayan cambiado de dirección o de afiliación política. Solamente los Ciudadanos Americanos por nacimiento o naturalización pueden votar. Los Residentes Permanentes o cualquier otro estado migratorio NO están autorizados para votar.
El derecho al voto es uno de los beneficios principales de pasar por un proceso migratorio legal y obtener la Ciudadanía Estadounidense. Es un derecho que debe ejercerse con responsabilidad, por lo tanto es importante que los electores estén bien informados.
Se puede votar de tres maneras diferentes: por correo con boleta ausente; votación adelantada en los centros designados o asistiendo a los precintos el Día de las Elecciones, 8 de Noviembre.
Las boletas ausentes pueden pedirse por internet, teléfono, email, fax o carta al Departamento de Elecciones de Miami-Dade (MDED). La fecha límite para solicitarlas es el 2 de Noviembre y deben ser devueltas antes del 8 de Noviembre. Son una excelente opción para quienes no pueden trasladarse en persona a votar bien sea por situaciones de salud, estudiantes en universidades fuera del estado, viaje, etc.
La votación adelantada comienza el 24 de Octubre hasta el 6 de Noviembre y el MDED ha confirmado que los centros de votación estarán abiertos de 7 am a 7pm. Los residentes de Doral tienen la suerte de contar con el MDED en su vecindario, justo al lado del Doral Central Park en la 87 Avenida. El día de las elecciones, 8 de Noviembre, los votantes deben dirigirse al centro asignado que aparece en su Tarjeta de Registro Electoral que debieron recibir por correo al registrarse o cambiar de dirección. En la Ciudad de Doral hay 11 centros de votación, la mayoría ubicados en las escuelas públicas del área y centros comunitarios. Cargos Públicos y Enmiendas constitucionales: ¿Cuáles son las opciones?
Los ciudadanos de Doral tomarán decisiones sobre cargos públicos y enmiendas de su incumbencia, aparte de elegir las autoridades municipales, cuyos candidatos hemos reseñado en ediciones anteriores. Es importante enfatizar para quienes votan por primera vez en una elección general en los EEUU, que no importa si no les agrada el candidato del partido al cual pertenecen, en la elección general pueden votar por cualquier otro candidato. El voto es secreto, nadie sabrá que usted no votó Republicano; o Demócrata, o Libertario. El punto importante es que su decisión debe ser la que según su perspectiva sea la más beneficiosa para el país, el estado, el condado o su municipalidad, sin importar su afiliación política.
Esta es la elección es uno de los momentos históricos más importantes para este país. Los Estados Unidos de América son un Gran país, hermoso y lleno de oportunidades para sus ciudadanos y para quienes han llegado en busca de su felicidad y prosperidad. Es responsabilidad de quienes tenemos el derecho constitucional como ciudadanos de esta gran nación el ejercer nuestro derecho al voto, para que esta continúe siendo la tierra de libertad, de gente valiente, respetuosa, diversa y generosa que siempre ha sido.
