COVID-19 rapid testing now available at Marlins Park and Hard Rock Stadium

DORAL, FL – COVID-19 rapid testing is now available at Hard Rock Stadium and Marlins Park that reopened on Wednesday, August 5, offering antigen tests.

According to CBS Miami, people who take this type of test can get results in about 15 minutes. There will be 1,250 tests available per day at the two state-run sites.

“What this will do is give a rapid test to our vulnerable population for those ages 5 to 17 and 65 and over regardless as to whether or not they have symptoms. This is done with a nasal swab that is administered by a nurse and the results are given after you leave the site, probably you’ll have a phone call even before you get home,” said spokesman Mike Jachles to CBS Miami.

The main purpose of antigen tests is to know whether a person is infected with COVID-19 in the present moment, although it doesn’t work to reveal if the person had the virus in the past or test people after the infection has passed.

Regardless of their benefits, it should be noticed that they are also less accurate then RT-PCR tests, according to Healthline.com, which reports false-negative results from antigen tests may range as high as 20 to 30 percent.

Drive-thru sites at Marlins Park and Hard Rock Stadium also offer antibody testing, which reveal if a person has been infected recently or further in the past.
