TAP Logo - Multiple VersionsArt is important for children as it gives them the ability to let their imagination flow and express love, frustration, anger, sadness, and other emotions. It is a window not only to view the world around them, but also to their past, their own history, and the history of humanity. It also promotes their creative abilities and helps them in the process of developing self-esteem, motivation and discipline.

This is the art that permeates at “The Artist Portfolio Workshop Museum”, the noteworthy academy in which participants are encouraged to feel through their works.

Groups of children get together daily in their studio located in Doral with this great opportunity and the right to communicate with their hands and imagination everything that inspiration and ability allows.

Founded in the city of Doral, under a big shade of experience, love and teamwork, The Artist Portfolio, has the primary mission of letting kids and anyone interested to express their feelings and creativity, while developing critical thinking skills.

It is important for the team who leads the academy that when given art supplies, children discover and experience what they can do with those materials. This is why it is so important that their creations be free and unbound.

Its founders Sara Alfaro, Art Director with 15 years experience teaching in public schools; Elizabeth Canchola in RRPP & Marketing, and Ana Maria Soler, responsible for all accounting and administrative endeavors; are a strong team and invest their love and knowledge of art into this academy. Both adults and children that step through their doors feel they belong and are welcomed to create and develop the skills that they are unable to explore due to the constraints of daily routines and duties.

“Children do not come to spend time alone to paint and leave. […] They come to learn that they can give and let their imagination and creativity guide them. […] ” says Elizabeth Canchola .

Participating in art activities helps children respect other ways of thinking while giving them the tools to solve their own problems and to communicate their thoughts and ideas in different ways.

At this point is important that children understand that they have the internal capability to create, and this quality offers unlimited potential for inspiration and play. They must understand that they do not need to be taught everything, but creativity is a place without boundaries.

“In the academy, the parents are not allowed to enter to the main studio, this way the children feel free to create and be themselves,” continues Elizabeth Canchola -. “We wish children understand, that their creations are part of their embodied expression and not that of their parents or teachers […] ”

The Museum Artist Portfolio Workshop conveys through its programs and its leaders, that parents should encourage passion as a source where they can explore and create without fear of failure and where they can be sure they do not need instructions or models. Creativity comes from within.

Through art we learn about almost all other components of development – things like socialization, motor development, and inspiration. In other areas of learning, such as mathematics and science, there is a specific result, but because art is free, children learn to think for themselves and find their own creativity.

“You need art in all fields of design, to be an industrial designer or a fashion designer, or to be an architect. Within the field of architecture there is much versatility as well […]. Art is at the base and is part of everything we do, and need […].” says Elizabeth.

IMG_0437 copyArt allows children to use all their senses. The best kind of art is the kind that allows a child to do what comes to mind. Some just begin with color, while others cut and paste. Children should be free to explore and create.

“Also here at the academy, children learn to deal with stress and learn to motivate themselves.”

The experience of those who work with them everyday, say that the best thing is to let them do what they want and allow them to express themselves. “When children are happy with what they do, are good students and become good citizens, this makes our society better.”

The same happens with the adults who make weekly appointment at the academy and manifest their experiences and feelings in their work, making this corner a free meeting with themselves. This is how we are able to find greater value in art around us; art is everything.

– Being that Doral is a city with so much diversity, does this add as advantage for the art? – “Sure, but unfortunately our city needs to be more united among its people. Taking advantage of the variety of different styles and tastes should be a plus for art. However; is not. Doral´s citizens do not yet understand that you are here to live and serve the city of Doral. If each of us take off our hat from the country that where we come from, be it from Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, or Argentina and instead wear the “hat” of Doral, we would work more for the city, and for the community which is ultimately the city we belong to now.”

And for this reason this great academy opens its doors, giving every citizen the opportunity to learn, express, and give more in the community where they live. Demonstrating that art is not only a reflection of a painting, a sculpture in a museum: art is our environment, our school, our house, and our city.

Plans for the summer break.

The Artist Portfolio, not only has regular classes, different assignments or materials; they also provide activities for the summer break with excellent planning of various In-house activities in their “Premier Summer Camp 2014 “.

Well-planned and structured programs that have been thoroughly organized include subjects such as Art: Mixed media, drawing, and sculpture classes; Music: Pop bands, Fitness, Voice classes, Games, and much more. In addition to the variety of activities, fun field trips In- Houses are also available and parents need not worry about anything because participants will enjoy an educational, fun, and stimulating experience with great professionalism and a warm-hearted staff.

“We believe our Summer Camp is the best in Doral because it encompasses all: art, music, and exercise. We do not need to charge extra for field trips because we have everything we need in-house”, argues Elizabeth; “We do not do art & crafts, we do art. This summer we will begin at art history and continue through to pop art, and this is how they will progress and learn”, she continued, ” […] we are serious about offering quality services for our young and we will our efforts are unstoppable. ”

This is definitely a great opportunity for parents who wish to give their children the opportunity to explore the arts, and to develop as human beings through stimulation and inspiration.

“Art invites fearlessness, everyone is an artist because there are no limits to creating”, adds Ana Ma Soler, “[…] everyone has an innate gift and we hope each child gains confidence in his or herself. There’s no competition here, everyone is equal and everyone is successful. ”

THE ARTIST PORTFOLIO WORKSHOP MUSEUM,
