The battle to become Mayor of Doral has started
The first time that Juan Carlos Bermudez conducted the destiny of Doral, there were only 22 thousand residents. Today, it is estimated that 54 thousand people reside in Doral, this makes it evident that this city has higher government requirements every day

Luigi wants to stay and Juan Carlos wants to return. Maybe this is the phrase that best describes the actual electoral battle for the Mayoral position, Luigi Boria expects to be re-elected while Juan Carlos Bermudez expects to return to the position that he hold from 2003 until 2012.
Doral’s Council is composed by four Council Member positions and one Mayor, each one of them is elected by direct voting by the residents of Doral. For these coming elections, on November 8th, 2016 the open seats are: 1, 3 and the Mayor’s Seat.
For the Mayoral Seat, the candidates that have presented their candidacy until now are the current Mayor Luigi Boria, who trusts he will be re-elected and Juan Carlos Bermudez, who was the first Mayor of the City of Doral and who assures that he will rescue Doral and bring it back to what is was, based on his previous experience.
WILL JUAN CARLOS RETURN?
Juan Carlos Bermudez, who will be remembered by history as the first Mayor of Doral and whose double term lasted for nine years, wishes to come back to the position that he hold until 2012.
Bermudez is a 54 years old attorney from Cuban origin. By the time he governed Doral, the city was an important warehouse area, with easy access to Miami International Airport, attracting a large number of immigrants. According to a 2009 CNN report, Doral became one of the best 100 cities in the country to live in and set a business. Rapidly, through the following years the population of the city grew from 22 thousand to over 54 thousand inhabitants today.
In the message to announce his candidacy, Bermudez indicated to the readers that together they had created a city and a community recognized by its transparency, growth and responsible quality of life. He added that the city was recognized as one of the best places to live and work in the United States at International, National and Regional levels, reason for which he was proud to be a resident and Mayor of Doral.
However, Bermudez stated in his message, that the last three years and a half he has felt disappointed to see the changes in Doral, for this reason he said: “After hearing from many of you and speaking to my wife and children, I have decided to run for Mayor of Doral this upcoming November. We will face a daunting task but with your help we can return to having a city where the residents and its government work hand in hand to make our community the best possible place to live, work, play and learn. Let’s get back to having an open and transparent government, responsible and controlled growth and a focus on creating a great quality of life”.
During his administration, Bermudez implemented new green spaces with sport areas and community centers, such as the Veterans Park and the Trails and Tails Park, he also opened the first Doral Police Department and built the actual City Hall.
WILL LUIGI STAY?
He first directed the Business Men and Women Board in the area in which his company was located, then presided the Board of Directors of his HOA, finally he submitted his candidacy to Council Member, position that he occupied from 2010 until November 2012, when he was elected Mayor of Doral.
Luigi Boria won with 2 thousand 572 votes, which represented 54.58% of the total registered voters. Now, he is asking to be re-elected in order to be able to provide continuity to the projects initiated during his first term. He assures that in Doral there is still too much to do to improve the quality of life of the residents and that he can make it happen.
Among his achievements, Boria highlights the construction of a respectable building for the Police Department, the commercial, industrial and residential growth of the city, road improvements, the planning of new parks and the correct administration of the finances, having allowed the city to achieve ample reserves and four times the reduction of the property taxes, achieving with this that Doral can enjoy today one of the lower property taxes in Miami Dade County.
Boria assures that his government has been opened to the opinion of the residents and that areas such as health, sports and the attention to the traffic problems have had an important place, always in the path to continue boosting the economic development and the territorial expansion.
In regards to the candidacies for Seat 1of the Council, position currently hold by Council Woman Sandra Ruiz, who at this time has not yet announced if she will look for her re-election or if she will look for the Mayoral Seat, the registered candidates are Claudia Mariaca and the Venezuelans Carlos Pereira and Jackelin Guiza.
On Seat 3 Vice Mayor Christi Fraga occupies the position, and although she has not made a formal announcement, she looks as if she is ready to compete for her re-election, as of today she has only one opponent, CPA David Hernandez from Cuban descent.

La primera vez que Juan Carlos Bermúdez rigió los destinos de Doral, la ciudad tenía 22 mil residentes. Hoy en día, se estima que más de 54 mil personas la habitan, lo que evidencia el crecimiento de esta localidad que cada día tiene mayores exigencias gubernamentales

Luigi quiere quedarse y Juan Carlos regresar. Quizás esta frase sea la que mejor defina la contienda electoral actual por la alcaldía de Doral, para la cual Luigi Boria aspira a ser re-electo, mientras que Juan Carlos Bermúdez espera regresar al cargo que ostentó desde el 2003 hasta el 2012.
El Ayuntamiento de Doral se divide en cuatro puestos del Concejo y un alcalde, cada uno de los cuales son electos por votación directa de los residentes de Doral. Para las próximas elecciones del 08 de noviembre del año 2016, los cargos supuestos a elección son los asientos 1 y 3 y el puesto del Alcalde.
Para el cargo de alcalde, los candidatos que hasta ahora han presentado su candidatura son el actual mandatario, Luigi Boria, quien confía en su re-elección y Juan Carlos Bermúdez, quien fue el primer alcalde de la ciudad y se basa en su experiencia previa para asegurar que va rescatar a Doral y vuelva a ser la ciudad que fue.
¿REGRESARA JUAN CARLOS?
Juan Carlos Bermúdez, a quien la historia lo recordará siempre como el primer mandatario de la ciudad y cuyo doble mandato duró nueve años, espera volver al puesto que ocupó hasta el 2012.
Bermúdez es abogado y de origen cubano con 54 años de edad. En la época que gobernó Doral, la ciudad era una importante zona de almacenes, con fácil acceso al Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami, atrayendo a una gran cantidad de inmigrantes, y Doral pasó a convertirse en una de las mejores 100 ciudades del país para vivir y crear un negocio, según un informe de CNN del 2009.
Rapidamente con el pasar de los años, la población pasó de 22 mil a más de 54 mil habitantes actualmente.
En su mensaje de postulación, Bermúdez señaló a los electores que juntos habían creado una ciudad y una comunidad que fue reconocida por su transparencia, crecimiento y calidad de vida responsable. Agregó que la ciudad fue reconocida a nivel internacional, nacional y estatal como uno de los mejores lugares para vivir y trabajar en Estadios Unidos, lo que lo hizo estar orgulloso de ser alcalde y residente de Doral.
Sin embargo, acotó Bermúdez en su mensaje, que durante los últimos 3 años y medio esta muy decepcionado de ver lo que ha sucedido en Doral.
“Después de escuchar a muchos de ustedes y hablar con mi esposa e hijas, he decidido postularme para Alcalde de Doral este próximo noviembre. Haremos frente a una tarea de enormes proporciones, pero con su ayuda podemos volver a tener una ciudad donde los residentes y el gobierno trabajen de la mano para hacer que nuestra comunidad sea el mejor lugar posible para vivir, trabajar, jugar y aprender. Volvamos a tener un gobierno abierto y transparente, con crecimiento responsable y controlado y enfocarnos en la creación de una gran calidad de vida”, manifestó.
Durante su administración, Bermúdez promulgó la implementación de nuevos espacios verdes con campos deportivos y centros comunitarios, como el Parque de los Veteranos y el Parque para Mascotas, también inauguró el primer Departamento de Policía de la ciudad y construyó el actual Ayuntamiento de Doral.
¿SE QUEDARA LUIGI?
Primero, dirigió la Junta de Hombres y Mujeres de Negocios en la zona donde estaba su empresa, luego presidió la Asociación de Vecinos de su comunidad para, finalmente, postularse como Concejal, cargo que ostentó desde el 2010 hasta noviembre del 2012, cuando fue electo alcalde de Doral.
Luigi Boria se impuso con 2 mil 572 votos, lo que representó el 54,58 % del total de electores. Ahora pide ser apoyado de nuevo, para darle continuidad a los proyectos iniciados en su primer mandato. Asegura que en Doral hay mucho por hacer para mejorar la calidad de vida de los residentes y él puede lograrlo.
Entre sus logros, Boria destaca la dotación de una instalación digna al cuerpo policial, el crecimiento comercial, industrial y residencial de la ciudad, las mejoras viales,la planificación de nuevos parques y la adecuada administración de las finanzas, permitiendo que la ciudad tenga amplias reserva de fondos y que se hayan reducido los impuesto en cuatro ocasiones, logrando que Doral tenga uno los impuestos a la propiedad más bajos del condado de Miami-Dade.
Boria asegura mantener un gobierno abierto a la opinión de los residentes y en el que áreas como la salud, el deporte y la atención a los problemas de tránsito han tenido un importante lugar, siempre enrumbados a continuar impulsando el desarrollo económico y la expansión territorial.
Con respecto a las postulaciones para la silla No. 1 del concejo Municipal, que es actualmente ocupado por la concejal Sandra Ruíz quien, por los momentos, no ha anunciado si buscará su re-elección o se lanzará por la alcaldía, los candidatos, hasta ahora inscritos son Claudia Mariaca y los venezolanos Carlos Pereira y Jackelin Guiza.
Por otro lado, la vice alcaldesa Christi Fraga ocupa hoy en día la silla No. 3 y aunque aun no ha hecho un anuncio formal, parece estar dispuesta a competir por su re-elección, teniendo, hasta la fecha, un único oponente, el contador público David Hernández, de origen cubano.
