Kendall Regional Freestanding ER in Doral Will Open Early 2019

Doral residents will have more healthcare options available early 2019 when the Kendall Regional Freestanding Emergency Room is completed. It is currently under construction at the corner of NW 41stStreet and 109thAvenue and will offer similar services like the one that opened on July 13thin the Town and Country Center now providing emergency services to the West Kendall community.
Dr. Joseph Averbach, Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Kendall Regional Medical Center explained that this type of center brings many advantages for the communities where they are located. In the case of Doral, which does not have a hospital within the city, a freestanding facility that takes care of emergency patients will be “able to handle critically ill patients and perform advanced diagnostic studies, just as if you were at an emergency department connected to a hospital.”
The staff at the freestanding ER will be composed of approximately 40 people, including emergency nurses, ancillary support staff and physicians board-certified in emergency medicine, prepared to “perform emergency procedures needed to manage critically ill patients”, both children and adults, explained Dr. Averbach. “Although we will not have pediatric trauma specialists at the center, our certified emergency physicians are trained to be able to handle pediatric emergencies and traumas.”
Emergencies are defined as life threatening situations, but when in doubt, patients are encouraged to go to an emergency room instead of an urgent care center. “We can handle everything that an urgent care center can handle in addition to handling patients with critical illnesses” says Dr. Averbach.
The facility, an investment of nearly $10 million, consists of approximately 10,500 square feet, and includes 11 exam rooms, a large trauma room and equipment for CT scans, X-Ray, ultrasound and on-site lab. “If a patient cannot determine what is best for them, going to a freestanding emergency department on their initial visit would ensure that they have all required necessary tests performed.”
If it is determined that a patient has to go to a hospital from the ER, they will be able to go the facility they decide. Dr. Averbach says that although the process would be streamlined for admission at Kendall Regional, a patient will “have a choice on where they would like to be admitted” and at the Freestanding ER they will care for all patients requesting treatment, following the same guidelines and laws for emergency departments.
This Freestanding ER will provide a faster healthcare option for the Western part of Doral and neighboring cities, given the traffic congestions that occur in the area, and waiting times will be less than at a regular ER at the hospital. The Doral Freestanding ER Center is part of the Kendall Regional’s overall $120 Million investment in Miami-Dade County and they are currently evaluating other sites where similar facilities can be located for the benefit of the community.

Centro de Emergencia Kendall Regional Abrirá en Doral en 2019

Los residentes de Doral tendrán más opciones de asistencia médica disponibles al inicio de 2019, cuando se concluya la construcción del Centro de Emergencia Kendall Regional, actualmente en progreso en la esquina de la avenida 109 avenida y calle 41. Este centro ofrecerá servicios similares al que fue inaugurado el 13 de Julio en Town and Country, que provee servicios de emergencia a la comunidad de West Kendall.
El Dr. Joseph Averbach, Director Médico del Departamento de Emergencia del Kendall Regional Medical Center, explicó que este tipo de facilidades tiene muchas ventajas para las comunidades donde están ubicadas. En el caso de Doral, que no tiene un hospital dentro de la ciudad, un centro completo de emergencia permite “atender pacientes en estado crítico y realizar estudios diagnósticos avanzados, tal y como se haría si estuvieran en la sala de emergencia de un hospital.”
El equipo del Centro de Emergencia estará compuesto por aproximadamente 40 personas, incluyendo enfermeras, equipo de apoyo y médicos certificados en medicina de emergencia, preparados para “realizar procedimientos de emergencia requeridos para el manejo de pacientes en estado crítico” tanto adultos como niños, explicó el Dr. Averbach. “Aun cuando no tendremos especialistas en emergencia pediátrica, nuestros médicos certificados están entrenados para manejar accidentes y emergencias pediátricas.”
Se definen emergencias como situaciones donde la vida del paciente está en riesgo, pero en caso de duda es preferible acudir a un centro de emergencia en lugar de un centro de urgencias. “En los Centros de Emergencia podemos manejar tanto las urgencias como los casos graves de pacientes críticos” dijo Dr. Averbach.
El Centro de Emergencia de Doral, una inversión cercana a los $10 millones, consiste en un edificio de 10,500 pies cuadrados, con 11 salas de examen, una amplia sala de emergencia y equipos para tomografía, rayos X y ultrasonido, además de un completo laboratorio. “Si el paciente no está seguro de dónde acudir, su mejor opción es ir a la sala de emergencia, donde podremos asegurarnos que se le realizarán todas las pruebas necesarias para su caso.”
Si se determina que un paciente debe ser ingresado, desde la emergencia podrán ir a cualquier hospital de su preferencia. Dr. Averbach comenta que, aunque el proceso es más expedito para admisiones en Kendall Regional, los pacientes “tendrán la opción de ir al hospital que deseen” y en el Centro de Emergencia siempre se atenderán todos los pacientes que necesiten tratamiento, siguiendo las reglas y normas legales para salas de emergencia.
El Centro de Emergencia en Doral proporcionará una opción de atención médica más rápida para el oeste de la ciudad y áreas vecinas, una ventaja dada las congestiones de transito que se generan en esa zona. Los tiempos de espera también serán menores que en la sala de emergencia de un hospital.
El Centro de Emergencia de Doral es parte de la inversión de $120 Millones que Kendall Regional está realizando en el Condado Miami-Dade y actualmente evalúan otras localidades para ubicar centros similares para beneficio de toda la comunidad.
