Event commemorates Women’s Equality Day

The City of Doral in collaboration with Advisory Board Members of the Commission on Status of Women recently organized an event at City of Doral Government Center to commemorate “Women’s Equality Day”.

Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez presented a proclamation approved by City Council to recognize the importance of equality for all women.

Attendees were able to hear from 2 prominent speakers that shed light on the ongoing efforts of their organizations to empower women on a local and national level.

The first speaker Lynette Long, President of Equal Visibility Everywhere – EVE.

EVE is a group of people committed to creating Equal Visibility Everywhere for women.  Founded in March 2010, they are a non-profit dedicated to achieving gender equality in the symbols and icons of the United States.  Their ongoing quest is to ensure that women are equally represented in statues, stamps, street names, currency, national holidays and more.

Also presenting was Allie Martinez, Advocacy Director of The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade.   For over 25 years, this organization has worked to improve the lives of women and girls by providing almost $4 million of funding to support almost 500 programs serving over 75,000 women and girls throughout Miami-Dade County.  Their Mission is to create change for women and girls through action, advocacy, and investment.

This celebration was all possible because of the sponsors. Realty World South Florida with 700+ agents assisting sellers, buyers, and investors in the South Florida market for over 19 years with offices in Ft. Lauderdale, Weston, Coral Springs, Kendall, and Doral.   In addition, The Law Firm of Sanchez-Vadillo LLP.  Both entities collaborated to ensure a successful event, which included a catered breakfast, giveaways and raffles.

The Women’s Equality Day event organized by City of Doral along with the Advisory Board on Commission for Status of Women was commended by all attendees for their efforts and look forward to sponsoring future events showcasing women’s accomplishments in all sectors.
