Christi Fraga won Doral Mayoral Race
Rafael Pineyro and Maureen Porras complete the Council Team.
By: Maria Alejandra Pulgar
Christi Fraga has been elected Mayor of Doral in the runoff election held this Tuesday, with 54.51% of the votes (3,702), over Claudia Mariaca who obtained 45.49% (3,089).
In the close race for Seat 1, Rafael Pineyro got elected with a total of 3,449 votes (51.23%), whereas Susie Castillo obtained 3,283 votes (48.77%).
Maureen Porras won Seat 2 to Ivette Gonzalez-Petkovich, to complete the City of Doral Council team. Porras obtained 3,469 votes (51.82%) over González-Petkovich, who received 3,225 votes (48.18%).
Councilwoman Digna Cabral was reelected by Doral voters for her second term in Seat 4 on the November 8th election date.
After a grueling month and a half of campaigning, the Doral elections are finally over. The close results reflect the broad division of opinions between the traditional group of residents supporting those who founded the city and those who want to see in the council new voices and faces who propose a vision of change and progress.
The community is more than ready to enjoy the holidays, forget about elections and see the new councilmembers at work, joining Councilman Oscar Puig-Corve and Councilwoman Digna Cabral on the dais as a team. People will certainly be following closely, given the myriad of campaign promises made, especially those related to security, traffic, and infrastructure completion.
In a city with a population of more than 71,000, according to the 2020 census, there are 33,072 registered voters, and only 6,805 ballots were casted in the runoff. A mere 20.58% of the population eligible to vote decided the future of the city for the next two years.
A swearing-in ceremony will take place for the four elected officials on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in the City of Doral Government Center, Council Chambers.
Regardless of who you voted for , we can all agree the political apathy in Doral is sad .
If I was a politician or any City Official and someone emailed me about anything , I am going to look up if they voted which is public record granted not who you voted for nor should that ever be available .
Either way if the person didn’t vote I would ignore them as dead weight should never be rewarded .
Just look at how many bothered to vote and you see this disgusting apathy in HOA / Board gated community elections .
Plenty of whining but no voting .

Beautifully put by the Author and glad the Doral Family Journal does not try to hide this like other cities in Miami do.
Thank you for your words of encouragement on telling the truth about what we see happening in our city. That is and will always be our commitment to our readers.
CHRISTINE FRAGA IS A YOUNG COMPETENT AFFABLE APPROACHABLE AND ALL INCLUSIVE PERSON, SHE IS JUST RIGHT FOR DORAL I HAVE LIVED IN DORAL FOR 36 YEARS AND IT HAS BECOME A ONE SIDED CITY, I THINK CHRISTINE WILL ENSURE ALL INCLUSIVENESS IN HER ADMINISTRSATION
